The Skoda Octavia vRS is a cracking car – one of Skoda’s best. Great performance and handling and not at all bad looking. Even better, it comes as a saloon and an estate – fun for every occasion.
In keeping with the changes made to the rest of the Octavia range late last year, Skoda has now rolled out the new look for the vRS (and the Scout) to bring the family looks to the whole range.
Up-front you get a redesigned grill with a vRS logo and the option of xenons with adaptive lighting. You also get a set of front fog lamps with optional cornering, and some daylight running LEDs. Out back the tail lights have been titivated, and you get a fresh set of 18″ alloys.
The chassis on the vRS gets lowered (my only 7mm – but it all helps) and the petrol version weighs in at 20kg less than before (15kg on the diesel). Both engines are gutsy, the 2.0 litre petrol delivering 200bhp and the 2.0 litre diesel 170bhp, and pretty economical (37.7mpg on the petrol, 49.6mpg on the diesel). Best of all, you can have the six-speed DSG ‘box.
The Skoda vRS is a bit of a blast, well-priced and holds its value well. A good buy, made better by the facelift.
