Nissan GT-R – without the wait

The Nissan GT-R - which has just broken its Nurburgring record again - can be bought in the UK with no waiting list

We’re starting to get real-world feedback now the first customer Nissan GT-Rs are in the wild in the UK. And it all seems extremely positive. Just about every owner we have spoken to is astonished at the performance. Everyone bought on the basis of the press coverage on the GT-R and no one really had a chance to try before they bought, so it’s nice to hear that those who have bought are so chuffed.

But those who bought in the hope of turning a quick profit have had a bit of a shock. Reasonably expecting to see a quick £10k profit, they have discovered that there is no premium to be had. And those who were daft enough to bring early Japanese cars in to the UK (despite Nissan warning they wouldn’t honour any warranty claims on imports) have found the cars virtually impossible to shift.

So why no premium on the Nissan GT-R? Surely, a new car, with such great press, is always likely to sell above list when it’s new? Well, normally, yes. But these are not normal times. We know of one dealer who can offer you a choice of GT-Rs at list price for immediate delivery. Nissan aren’t shouting about it, but that’s the truth of the situation in today’s climate if you know where to look.

Still, great news for buyers who want to get in to the car at sensible money. Get your cheque books out. Apart from a few service items being a wee bit on the pricey side, the GT-R is every bit as good as we’d hoped.

And as an aside, Nissan’s on-going battle with the Nurburgring has continued in the GT-R. Back in April we told you about the efforts to beat their Nissan GT-R lap time at the Nurburgring, and that we thought there was more to come. Well there was.

On 23/4/09 the Nissan GT-R lapped the Nurburgring in 7:26.56, shaving over half a second off the time they achieved. It still doesn’t give them the production car record (held by the ZR1), but it’s probably time to call it a day. We all agree. Stonking car.

I thought there was a big waiting list for the Nissan GT-R? Nissan have kept this quiet. I wonder if there are discounts as well!!
