First details and an image of the McLaren P13 – McLaren’s new cheaper supercar designed to take on the Porsche 911 & Audi R8 – have been revealed.

It was only last month that we had official confirmation that the McLaren P13 – McLaren’s more affordable mid-engined supercar – would arrive in 2015 to take on cars like Audi’s R8 and the top end Porsche 911s.
The McLaren P13 – shown above in a sketch by McLaren’s design boss, Frank Stephenson – looks to take its design cues more from the MacLaren P1 than the 12C – a good thing – and will utilise the same carbon fibre MonoCell chassis as the P1 and 12C as well as a de-tuned version of the same 3.8 litre V8 turbo.
In the P13, the 3.8 litre V8 will deliver 444bhp (the 12C has 616bhp) which will be enough to give it performance that matches up to rivals, and the price is expected to be around £120,000.
It seems likely the new McLaren P13 will be revealed in production guise at the 2014 Paris Motor Show before going on sale in 2015, once McLaren has finished building the last of the 375 McLaren P1s.
Initial cars will be coupes, but it’s certain that a Spider version of the P13 will follow along in 2016.

This will be the volume model for McLaren who want to build 4000 cars a year. The sports car market is getting crowded these days, not only with the incumbants of Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin, but also now with Jaguar (F-type), Audi (R8) and hopefully Lotus (new Esprit).
