McLaren 625C debuts in China

The McLaren 625C – the first region-specific McLaren, built for the Asian market – has made its public debut at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China ahead of going on sale.

At the start of September we revealed that the McLaren 625C was on its way, but at that point we struggled to understand exactly what the 625C would be.

But by the end of September McLaren had cleared up the confusion by officially revealing the 625C as an Asia-specific model, and now its made its public debut at the Guangzhou Motor Show.

The McLaren 625C (‘C’ stands for Club) has been created specifically for the Asian market and gets the same 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 as the 650S, but detuned to deliver slightly less power – 616bhp and 450lb/ft of torque – and is slightly slower to 62mph at 3.1 seconds.

Available as either a Coupe or Spider, the 625C also comes with revised ProActive Chassis Control and new dampers and revised mechanical balance with a less stiff spring rate at the rear to create what McLaren are calling ‘and increased focus on day-to-day usability and comfort, more ideally suited to Asian buyers.

The McLaren 625C will now go on sale, initially in Hong Kong with other Asia Pacific markets to follow on.
