The Mercedes C-Class has been declared the overall winner in the 2015 World Car of the year Awards, and Mercedes has grabbed two extra gongs for the AMG GT and S-Class Coupe.

There are lots of gongs for cars, but if you’re going to grab a gong or two it always sounds good if they’re ‘World’ awards.
So Mercedes should be chuffed that the Mercedes C-Class has been declared the 2015 World Car of the Year, beating off competition from the new Ford Mustang and Volkswagen Passat.
But it wasn’t just the World Car of the Year Mercedes grabbed, they added two more gongs to their haul, managing to win three of the five awards on offer.
The new Mercedes S-Class Coupe took the award for 2015 World Luxury Car – something the S-Class Saloon did last year – beating off competition from the BMW i8 (an odd entrant in the ‘Luxury’ category) and the Range Rover Autobiography Black LWB.

The third award for MB was for the Mercedes AMG GT which cleaned up in the Performance category to be declared 2015 World Performance Car, and it beat off competition from the BMW M4 /M3 and the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, with the WCA jurors commenting:
Its on-road presence alone is almost enough to qualify it as a ‘Top 3’ finalist. But in addition to its ruggedly handsome looks it has an impressive spec sheet comprising biturbo 4.0-litre V8 engine, seven speed dual-clutch transmission, 456bhp (minimum)…and much, much more.
We think they liked it.
The awards Mercedes didn’t win went to the BMW i8 as the 2015 World Green Car, and the Citroen C4 Cactus for the 2015 World Car Design. Really?
But it was a clean sweep for Mercedes in all the WCOTY categories that matter.
