Vauxhall Zafira FIRE recall for 220,000 cars announced by Vauxhall Chairman (video)

Vauxhall Chairman, Rory Harvey, has issued a video apology for the Zafira fire problems and announced a recall of 220,000 Zafira B models in the UK.

Last month we reported that Vauxhall were investigating  spate of fires in the Zafira, and were offering to check out the cars free of charge for any owners worried they may be at risk. But that’s now been elevated to a full recall for the Model B Vauxhall Zafira.

The affected cars are the MK 2 Zafira built between 2005 and 2014 fitted with either manual air conditioning or no air conditioning. Models fitted with climate control are not affected.

Vauxhall’s investigations in to the problem have been hampered by the simple fact that affected cars have been burnt to a crisp, but the issue seems to be caused by problems with the blower motor resistor and thermal fuse, although it does seem the problem is caused by non-OEM parts.

Vauxhall are now writing to owners of the Zafira – starting from 12 November – asking them to contact their local dealer to get their cars checked and, if necessary, fixed.

It’s a good response from Vauxhall for something that does appear, at least on the face of it, to be not exactly their fault, despite which Vauxhall’s Chairman, Rory Harvey, has got his camcorder out and recorded a suitably apologetic video directed at owners of affected Zafiras (below).
