Will your Vauxhall Zafira catch fire?
Owners of the Vauxhall Zafira B (2005-2014) with manual air conditioning may need to get their car checked out by Vauxhall after a spate of fires.
It seems some Vauxhall Zafira models have been catching fire as something goes wrong in the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system and now, after a bit of a Facebook campaign, Vauxhall has stepped up to the plate to address the issue. It’s believed up to 100 Zafiras – but only the Zafira B model built between 2005 and 2014 with manual air conditioning – have gone up in flames, and Vauxhall has been forced to take action after a campaign on Facebook and a BBC Watchdog report.
Vauxhall believe the fault is a result of repairs made to the HVAC system using none OEM parts, but they’re offering to check out the cares free of charge for any owners who are worried.
Vauxhall say you need to take notice if you hear any squeaking coming from the dashboard, notice any odd smells (of the burning type, not the kids in the back), have had work done on the HVAC or the fan only works in position 4, and get in touch with your Vauxhall dealer for a quick, and free, check to make sure nothing’s amiss.
If you do have any of the symptoms then Vauxhall advise you set the fan to 0 (or just a blast of setting 4 to clear the windscreen) and make contact with your dealer as soon as possible.
