The Genesis GV90 is revealed as a huge electric SUV from Hyundai’s posh brand, with trick doors and 648bhp.
Hyundai’s Genesis brand is still struggling to become another Lexus, although they have done good Concept with offerings like the Genesis X.Sadly, most of the Genesis concepts stay as that and never make production, but now Genesis has turned a recent concept, the Genesis Neolun Concept, into a production model – the new Genesis GV90 EV.
The GV90 is a bit of a giant SUV, as long as a Rolls-Royce Cullinan or Bentley Bentayga EWB, although likely to be priced closer to the upcoming Range Rover Electric, and it sits on a new modular EV architecture dubbed eMP, offering a 3245mm wheelbase for room to party inside.
The GV90 will come as standard with seven seats, but there is a four-seat Neolun trim option which comes with pillarless coach doors at the rear, necessitating much strengthening and a hidden ‘roll bar’ to maintain integrity, and even a roof airbag for belt-and-brace safety.
Inside is luxurious regardless of spec, with a cinematic display, 25″ HUD, B&O Sound, Fridge, tables and front seats which swivel around to face the rear seats when stationary.
Power comes from a pair of electric motors – one at each end – good for a total of 648bhp, each equipped with its own limited-slip diff, with a 123.5 kWh battery powering the motors and promising range of a bit over 300 miles.
Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, said:
GV90 is not simply a new vehicle, but a new vision for luxury mobility that brings together inspiring design, AI-powered software and connectivity, and industry-leading safety. Technology alone does not create luxury, and design alone does not define luxury. The value of innovation lies in transforming the customer experience in intelligent and intuitive ways, improving people’s lives.
True luxury is human freedom, and true luxury is beauty, expressed through craftsmanship, authenticity and commitment to excellence. Genesis will embrace these innovations to provide customers with differentiated value and experiences of distinction.
The GV90 is a bold effort from Hyundai’s Genesis taking aim at high-end EV offerings. How many buyers will be prepared to pay the price – likely a chunk over £100k – for a huge electric Hyundai SUV with a posh badge remains to be seen.
