Get your Christmas shopping delivered to your Volvo
Volvo has rolled out a ‘Deliver shopping to your car’ scheme in Gothenburg for Christmas, allowing deliveries to be made directly to your Volvo’s boot.
Christmas shopping is starting in earnest now the festive season is less than a month away, so Volvo has decided to use technology to take the strain out of traipsing round the shops by setting up a new delivery system that will deliver your purchases directly to the boot of your car.To start with, the service is only available in Gothenburg, and for purchases from the Nordic online toy store and Mat.se – an online grocery store – but, if successful, it will no doubt be extended to other cities and other retailers in the future./
Available to owners who have the Volvo On Call Service, all they need to do is select ‘in-car delivery’ when they shop at either the toy store or grocery store, and the delivery driver gets a one-time digital key for your car, location details and puts everything in your boot for you to simply take home.
We’re not entirely sure how it works if you find the goods delivered to your boot have been damaged – or if the delivery driver has a penchant for helping himself to anything interesting he finds in the car – but on the face of it this does seem to have legs.
Volvo are keen to point out that this isn’t using technology for the sake of it, but is a serious application that could be a boon to busy owners who can’t face the trek round the shops, and love the convenience.
Klas Bendrik, CIO at Volvo, said:
Volvo is not interested in technology for the sake of technology.
If a technology does not make a customer’s life easier, better, safer or more fun, we don’t use it.
So next year you might very well be able to get your Christmas shopping from Waitrose delivered to the boot of your car in London whilst you’re busy lunching somewhere interesting.
