The Volvo V40, and V40 Cross Country, have been given a bit of a facelift for 2016, with a new nose, Thor lights and trim updates. Debuts at Geneva 2016.
Since it arrived in the UK four years ago, the Volvo V40, along with its higher-riding Cross Country sibling, have become the best-selling Volvos in the UK.But now it’s time for a few tweaks to keep the V40 fresh until the all-new models arrive, with a facelift and makeover for 2016 which rolls out the Volvo family look to its smallest car.
The new look for the V40 takes inspiration from the new S90 and V90, so the 2016 V40 gets a set of ‘Thor’s Hammer’ running lights, a bigger Volvo Iron Mark badge on the grille, standard LED headlights and a new grille mesh.
Volvo has also added eight new alloy wheel designs across the V40 and V40 Cross Country range, as well as five new colours – Amazon Blue, Denim Blue, Bursting Blue, Mussel Blue and Luminous Sand – four of which are, oddly, shades of blue. Maybe blue’s the new white at Volvo?
Under the skin, the only notable change is the emissions on the entry-level diesel D2, which has its emissions cut to 89g/km, and the trim options have been changed to fall in line with the new ’90’ Series cars, so you now get the option of Momentum, Inscription, R-Design and Cross Country.
Inside updates for 2016 are quite minor, but you can now have your V40 with a new City Weave upholstery (which we first saw in the Volvo Concept Estate), new interior trims – Milled Aluminium, Black Grid Aluminium and Stealth Aluminium – new tread plates and a redesigned key fob (until Volvo does away with car keys) featuring the new Iron Mark.
Volvo V40 with Volvo On Call
Volvo’s On Call smartphone App gets upgraded for 2016 too, with Microsoft Band 2 connectivity added to the existing Apple Watch and Android Wear, a calendar function, Flic button compatibility and support for Windows 10.
The new Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country are now on sale at Volvo’s UK dealers, with firts customer cars expected in June 2016.
