Volvo’s 40 Series cars – XC40, EX40 and EC40 – updated with new looks inside and out and improved tech.
Volvo’s 40 Series cars – the XC40, EX40 and EC40 – first arrived with the XC40 nine years ago, with Volvo adding the electrified XC40 Recharge and C40 Coupe a couple of years later, before renaming the XC40 Recharge and C40 to EX40 and EC40.Despite that long timeline for the XC40 and its siblings, it’s still amongst Volvo’s best-sellers, so to keep it that way, Volvo has introduced an update for the 40-Series cars, including new looks inside and out and improved tech.
The exterior has been updated with a completely new front end – although it still looks like a Volvo 40 – with a shallower but wider grille (blanked off on the EVs), new ‘Thor’ Matrix LED headlights, new bonnet and wings, new 20″ alloys, new tail lights and a redesigned tailgate.
Inside, there’s a new 11.2″ infotainment system which Volvo says is sharper, runs Volvo’s latest Google UI, and promises to be faster and more intuitive to use and able to understand natural conversation.
Other upgrades to the interior include new indirect ambient lighting and new, more premium materials, including Arianne Cardamom leather and Brown Ash Wood.
As this is Volvo, any upgrades must include safety improvements, so there’s now Door Opening Alert to warn of passing traffic, Pilot Assist adds lane change assist, and the optional 360 camera gets a 3D view.
Volvo’s Akhil Krishnan said:
By enhancing the design, technology and safety features of our 40 series cars, we’ve created the best versions of our 40 series yet.
These already popular models are now set to continue being among our best-selling cars for years to come.
