The Jaguar XF L (pictured) will be Jaguar’s first ‘Made in China’ car
The Jaguar XF L – a long-wheelbase XF – will be Jaguar’s first locally built car for China, going in to production after a debut at the Beijing Motor Show.
Long wheelbase premium cars are still a big seller in China, with cars like the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E Class and Audi A6 all being offered in long-wheelbase guise for the Chinese Market. And now Jaguar are getting in on the act with a new Jaguar XF L.The Jaguar XF L will be the first Jaguar produced in China and will be built at JLR’s joint-venture plant in Changshu, which is run by JLR and Chery Automobile, and will go in to production after a debut at this month’s Beijing Motor Show.
The new XFL will be built alongside Land Rover’s China-built offerings – the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport – in a new bodyshop built to produce the XF’s aluminium platform (the same platform that underpins both the new XE and F-PACE).
It looks like, at least initially, the China XFL will come with JLR’s ‘old’ engines, as the new engine plant JLR are building to produce the new Ingenium engines for China is still not up and running.
Murray Dietsch, President of Chery Jaguar Land Rover, said:
Jaguar Land Rover is a world-leader in the production of aluminium vehicles and is one of the largest producers of aluminium bodies globally.
The arrival of the all-new Jaguar XFL brings the best of this experience and technology to Changshu. It is an important milestone for the team at Chery Jaguar Land Rover.
JLR say sales of the new Jaguar XF L will begin in China in the second half of 2016
