Jaguar has stretched the XF by 140mm to create the Jaguar XF L, a long-wheelbase XF aimed at the luxury chauffeur market in China. Debuted at the Beijing Motor Show.
Despite its recent woes, the China car market is very important for Western car makers, and it’s important to cater for the individual market requirements to make sales. Step forward the new Jaguar XFL.The XFL is a long wheelbase XF created just for China – where there’s a distinct predilection to be driven in cars with enough room to party in the back – with a 140mm longer footprint and 157mm more legroom in the back (that’s more than 6″ in real money). And despite the stretch, the long back doors don’t look incongruous, and the XF still looks elegant and sporty.
Jaguar hasn’t just stretched the XF, but they’ve also fitted it with the sort of stuff a chauffeur-driven passenger will need, with a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices, rear entertainment, folding rear tables, heated and cooled massaging seats and electric blinds on the windows.
Also on offer in the XFL is a new ionisation technology to deliver clean air and the arrival of ‘Clear Exit Detection’, which warns back seat occupants against opening the doors in to traffic from behind.
But even though the XFL is all about the back seat passengers, Jaguar hasn’t forgotten the driver, so there’s the latest 10.2″ InControl Infotainment system, a reconfigurable 12.3″ digital instrument cluster and a choice of either a 200PS or 240 PS four-cylinder petrol engine or a 340PS V6 supercharged petrol engine.
The Jaguar XFL will be the first Jaguar produced at Jaguar’s Chery Jaguar Land Rover manufacturing plant in Changshu, with sales starting in China only in the summer.
