Jaguar F-Type 2.0 litre on the way (2015 F-Type pictured)

It looks like the Jaguar F-Type is about to get a new 2.0 litre petrol Ingenium engine, with up to 300bhp, as the F-Type downsizes its power.
If you want a Jaguar F-Type, you can only have it with six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines, but it looks like a new four-cylinder engine for the F-Type is on the way after a camouflaged F-Type has been caught testing with what is assumed to be an all-new 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine. It looks like Jaguar are going to launch their 2.0 litre Ingenium petrol engines with a bit of a bang (Jaguar, and Land Rover, are still using the old Ford petrol engine) by launching it in the F-Type, where it’s expected to deliver 300bhp.
That may seem quite a lot from a 2.0 litre petrol, but 2.0 litre petrols are starting to be very impressive lumps (perhaps apart from the soundtrack) with Volvo’s 2.0 litre Drive-E delivering over 300bhp, and the new 2.0 litre four-pot in the Porsche Cayman 718 295bhp.
And it’s the arrival of the Cayman 718 that’s probably driven Jaguar to deliver 2.0 litre power for the F-Type.
The entry-level 718 costs under £40k and can get to 62mph in 5.1 seconds, whereas the current cheapest F-Type costs over £50k (the 3.0 litre V6) and takes 5.5 seconds to 62mph.
A 2.0 litre engine on the F-Type with around 300bhp and six-speed manual gearbox would have a fighting chance of getting close to the 718’s performance, and its price would certainly get closer to the Porsche’s £40k.
With a camouflaged 2.0 litre F-Type out playing, it seems likely we could see Jaguar’s engine downsized F-Type arriving at the Paris Motor Show in a few months time.
