Volvo V90 is the PERFECT police car
Volvo police cars in the UK have been a common sight for years, and as the Swedish Police discover the new Volvo V90 is the best police car ever, that looks set to continue.
Volvo police cars, particularly Volvo estate cars, are a common sight on the UK’s roads, and have been since Hampshire Police took delivery of a Volvo 121 Estate more than 50 years ago.Since then, the very quick 850 Estate in T5 guise was a big favourite of many forces, and the Volvo V70 is still being used today. But now there’s a new Volvo police car on the block, and it’s said to be the best Volvo police car ever.
Swedish Police are about to take delivery of their first Volvo V90, and according to the, very stringent, tests they’ve done, the V90 Estate is the best Volvo police car ever built.
Because the Swedish Police consider the car a workplace, it has to conform to regulated standards on performance, comfort, quality and ergonomics, with tests including brakes, an obstacle course, evasive action with and without braking, and high-speed emergency driving.
The V90 police car scored the highest ever marks in the Swedish tests.
But to be fair, the marks the V90 got are not just because of a biased Swedish Police force being blindly patriotic, but because the starting point with the V90 is so good, and Volvo go the extra mile to make their cars even more suited to purpose for emergency services.
The Volvo Car Special Products department takes the V90 off the production line, strengthens the chassis and makes it more dynamic, brakes and suspension are beefed-up, the car gets all necessary equipment for its role and Volvo support it for 150,000 miles.
It’s already true that if you’re driving a white Volvo down a motorway it takes a lot longer to get where you’re going as everyone drives at 69mph. And the inevitable arrival of the new V90 police car on the UK’s road looks set to see that continue.
