Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace previewed with this design sketch
Volkswagen tease the arrival of the VW Tiguan Allspace at the Detroit Motor Show, a seven-seat Tiguan, with design sketches ahead of an on sale summer 2017.
It’s over a year since the new Volkswagen Tiguan SUV arrived at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and now it’s about to expand – in range and size – with this: the new Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.Delivering a new VW badge in Allspace (we wonder if Audi are impressed with their ‘All’ badge being nicked?), the Tiguan Allspace is a Tiguan for the fertile of loin, delivering seating for seven in a stretched Tiguan which, it seems, deserves a big hoo-ha and a new name.
But it’s not just that the Tiguan gets a new sub-badge category with the arrival of ‘Allspace’ that matters, it’s that by stretching the Tiguan a tad (11cm – that’s a bit over 4″ in real money) the Tiguan suddenly – VW hopes – becomes a viable offering in the USA.
That explains why Volkswagen are debuting the Tiguan Allspace at the Detroit Motor Show in January, clearly believing that North America will take to the bigger Tiguan as a good way to transport an oversized brood. Although we’d expect the average American family to be rather more impressed by the new VW Atlas.
Under the bonnet will be a similar range of engines to the Tiguan, although, for the US, they won’t be including diesels, and even in the UK and Europe we’d expect more attention will be focussed on engines that don’t burn oil.
In the US the Tiguan Allspace will simply be the Volkswagen Tiguan, but in the UK and Europe it will join the current Tiguan as the Tiguan Allspace, commanding a price premium over its less capacious sibling when it goes on sale summer 2017.
