The new VW Tiguan has been unveiled ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with a new platform, a new look and more technology.
This is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan has revealed ahead of its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show and features a new, more aggressive look, new underpinnings with the VW MQB Platform and plenty of technology to help drive Tiguan sales. The new Tiguan grows in size – it’s 60mm longer and 30mm wider – as well as being lower by 33mm, and there’s more space inside too thanks to an extra 77mm in the wheelbase. There’s more room in the boot too, with 615 litres with the back seats in place.
That means a more purposeful look, with a design clearly influenced by the new Passat including a wide grill to accentuate width, although in profile the new model looks very familiar, whilst the inside looks little different to what you’ll find in the latest Golf
Engine choices will include the 114bhp 1.6 litre diesel as well as a trio of 2.0 litre diesels offering 148bhp, 178bhp and 217bhp, with 1.4 and 2.0 litre petrol options as well as front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions.
New technology on offer for the Tiguan includes Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring and Automatic Post Collision Braking as standard.
VW has also previewed a Tiguan GTE with a 154bhp 1.4 litre turbo petrol mated to an electric motor to give a total of 215bhp and the promise of almost 150mpg (well, on official figures).
The 2016 VW Tiguan is expected to go on sale in the UK by the end of 2015.
