Pagani Huayra Roadster – costs more than a McLaren P1 & LaFerrari COMBINED

The Pagani Huayra Roadster finally brings open-top motoring to the Huayra, three years later than promised and costing around £2.4 million.

The Pagani Huayra first officially arrived six years ago at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011 (in fact, Cars UK exclusively published the first ever photo of the Pagani Huayra in January 2011), and Horacio Pagani assure us there would be a Huayra Roadster by 2014.

The more awake of you may have already worked out this is actually 2017 and not 2014, but actually, six years is less than three years in the world of Pagani delivery promises, so the Huayra Roadster is actually quite early.

Impressively, Pagani has managed to deliver a Huayra Roadster which weighs less than its coupe sibling, thanks to the use of a new carbon-titanium composite (called Triax HP52) for the monocoque, which apparently makes the Roadster 52 per cent stiffer too.

Not only is the monocoque lighter, so too is the all-aluminium suspension – 25 per cent lighter than the coupe – all of which will help improve the performance. As too will the fettling of the AMG V12 behind your head.

The twin-turbo V12 now manages to deliver an impressive 754bhp – more than the coupe and more than the Huayra BC – which, together with the Roadster’s 1280kg dry weight, should get the Huayra Roadster to 62mph in under 3 seconds.

In all other ways – drive modes, gearbox, aero flaps etc – the new Roadster is much the same as the coupe, but the price is a bit steeper.

In fact, although Pagani say all the Roadsters are sold, it seems the starting price was around £2 million plus tax, which would make a UK Pagani Huayra Roadster cost £2.4 million. That’s more than the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari combined.

The Pagani Huayra Roadster will get its public debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show.

Basic accounting means that the more cars you build the more you can split your development or fixed costs over. As Ferrari built 500 LaFerraris then the development bill per car in theory would be one fifth of what they would charge if they had only built 100 like Pagani has. As your taxable price is then lower the amount of VAT due will be a lot lower. It is only because Pagani is a lower volume manufacturer that his prices are higher.

The car is beautiful and the finish is immaculate. It would almost be a shame to drive it quickly and deprive people of the pleasure of seeing and hearing it close up!!
