London Taxi Company – now called LEVC – reveal the new electric TX Black Cab

The London EV Company – formerly the London Taxi Company – reveals the new LEVC TX Black Cab with 400 mile total range and 70 miles electric range.

The London Taxi Company has been renamed the London EV Company as it plans to roll out its ‘commercial’ electric vehicles, but the headline act for the Geely-owned company is the electric London Black Cab. And here it is.

Seen in the flesh – but with camouflage – at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last month, the new electric London Taxi is now revealed in all its glory.

With a design which fulfils all the requirements of a London Taxi, it’s a convincing 21st century take on the TX Black Cabs, looking as you’d want it to but without being a retro pastiche. 

Under the skin is a 1.3 litre petrol engine acting as a generator for the batteries – what LEVC have dubbed ‘eCity’ – which drive the taxi’s electric motor, promising a total range of 400 miles and an electric only range of 70 miles.

The new LEVC TX will go on sale in the UK on August 1, and LEVC reckon it will save the average Cabbie £100 a week in fuel. Which should more than offset what is likely to be a steeper price.

LEVC already has 225 vehicles on order from RMC in the Netherlands, and with TfL expecting 9,000 London TAxis to be zero emission capable by 2020, sales in the UK should be strong.
