Toyota joins the SCRAPPAGE Party with up to £4,000 off a new car (£1k off the C-HR pictured)
Toyota is the latest car maker to hop on the ‘scrappage to cut emissions’ bandwagon, offering new car buyers up to £4,000 if they have a dirty old car.
The Scrappage scheme that launched when the economy tanked in 2009 did lots to boost sales for car makers, and with diesel anxiety running high all car makers are looking to turn a sale or two by offering their own ’emissions reducing ‘scrappage’ scheme. The latest to join the party – to make sure they retain their share of new car sales – is Toyota, and it’s arguable that Toyota should be the biggest winners as they’re probably the least polluting car maker across the board.
That’s down to their long-standing aversion to diesel-engined cars, and their persistence with hybrid powertrains when the rest of the car industry was busy promoting ‘Clean Diesel’.
So Toyota’s entry in to the emissions cutting scrappage scheme isn’t out of a need to ‘buy back’ old polluting Toyotas, as much as about keeping up with the rest of the car industry.
Still, if you’re going to get a new car with a hefty allowance for getting rid of your old car (more than seven years old) you can get a decent chunk off a new Toyota.
Discounts start at £1,000 for the Toyota C-HR, £2,000 for the Toyota Aygo, Prius, GT86, Hilux and Proace, £3,500 for the Toyota Auris, Verso, Rav4 and Avensis and £4,000 for the Toyota Land Cruiser.
The scheme runs from tomorrow (1 September 2017) and runs to the end of the year, but you will have need to own the car you’re bringing in for at least six months.
