The Mercedes S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet – including the performance AMG S 63 and AMG S 65 versions – get a facelift for 2018 and debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
It’s three years since the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe went on sale in the UK, so it’s time for a bit of a titivate for 2018, not just to the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, but to the top end AMG S 63 and S 65 versions of the Coupe and Cabriolet too.The changes for 2018 are pretty minor, but the S63 and S 65 do get the new AMG grille with its vertical louvre design, as well as bigger air ducts for better cooling, with just minor bumper tweaking across the range, some extra chrome and tail lights made up of 66 individual OLEDs.
Inside there’s new trim options, and the 12.3″ digital instrument screen get updated graphics, with the Comand centre getting a software tweak to cope with 3D topographical map displays and Car-to-X messaging. There’s also Active Distance Control Distronic and Active Steering Assistant in the mix.
The S400 becomes the S450, although it keeps the same 3.0 litre 362bhp V6, although the new S560 4MATIC now get the latest V8 from its saloon sibling, offering cylinder deactivation and a bit more power than the old S500.
The AMG S 63 Coupe and Cabriolet get a more powerful version of the same engine with 603bhp and 663lb/ft of torque, with nine-speed AMG Speedshift and updated 4MATIC and is said to be good for a 3.5 second sprint to 62mph.
The range-topping AMG S 65 Coupe and Cabriolet keep the same 6.0 litre 621bhp V12 and 7G-tronic gearbox and rear-wheel drive.
Expect the new S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models to go on sale shortly after their debut in Frankfurt next week, with prices up a smidge on the current models.
