We’re using Redex System Cleaner on our C-Max for a couple of months to see what difference it makes
We’ve been asked by Redex – makers of fuel additives and system cleaners – to try their product on one of our cars for a couple of months to see what we think.
It’s hard to know what to think about fuel additives now fuel systems in cars are controlled by injectors and computers – rather than float chambers and needles – so when Redex asked it to run a trial of their system cleaner we thought: “Why not?”.The claims Redex make aren’t too extreme, but they do say adding a small bottle of their system cleaner at every fuel fill will clean the fuel system, cut emissions, improve performance and extend engine life.
Clearly, if it does all that, the costs, around £2 every time you fill up, is a very sensible way to go – but that’s what we aim to find out in the next couple of months.

Redex Multi-pack or single
We didn’t know which staff car to use, and were originally going to use an almost new MINI Clubman with the 1.5 litre BMW petrol, but then we thought it may be better to use something floating around which was a little older and a bit more worn.
So we settled on a 2010 Ford C-Max diesel which has been looked after, but has also done more than 100,000 miles.
It runs fine, and is used every day, but it’s perhaps not as smooth as it once was, and economy – despite the diesel engine – is also perhaps not as good as it should be either.
So we’ve now added the first pot of Redex to the tank of the C-Max, and over the next couple of months we’ll reporting back on any changes we notice.
