Del Boy’s Reliant Three-Wheeler sells for £42,000
One of the Reliant Regal three-wheel vans used by Del Boy in the BBC sitcom Only fools and Horses has cost its new owner a whopping £42,000.
A couple of weeks ago we revealed that Del Boy’s Three-Wheel Reliant Van from Only Fools and Horses was up for auction without reserve. The general consensus was that the Reliant would fetch somewhere around the £20k mark, but in the end the hammer went down at £37,000, and once fees were added it all came to a whopping £41,625. Mange Tout.
It’s an astonishing price to pay for a Reliant Regal van, and even more astonishing when you consider this particular set of Del Boy’s wheels was just one of around half a dozen Reliants used during the Only Fools run and, as far as we can tell, only actually appeared in one episode.
But the sale was probably helped by the fact that this Reliant is in pretty good nick, complete with a new engine and gearbox, and a good enough runner to have managed to London to Brighton run.
It also comes with an MOT, a modest 72k on the clock and additional goodies like a smoke machine, a couple of blow-up dolls, fluffy dice and ‘tiger skin’ interior.
It’s probably the best day’s business for Del Boy since the sale of the Harrison Lesser Watch for £6 million at Sotheby’s.
