Nissan ProPilot parks SLIPPERS and more at Japanese Hotel (+ video)

Nissan has fitted a version of its ProPilot autonomous software to slippers, tables and mats at a Japanese Hotel to demonstrate their technology in action.

The new Nissan LEAF has moved the LEAF on from being a rather quirky, not really mainstream, electric car which really wasn’t quite an alternative to an ICE car, in to a car which looks much better and could replace an ICE car for a lot of buyers without any real inconvenience.

The new LEAF is not only much better looking, with more power and more range, but it boasts lots of clever technology to make everyday driving that bit easier. Like ProPilot Park.

ProPilot Park uses sensors and cameras to park the LEAF for you, and clever though it is it’s not likely to get many too excited and desperate to learn more. So Nissan decided they needed a more fun/bonkers/informative (delete as applicable) way to shout out ProPilot Park.

That goes some way to explaining why a hotel in Japan – catchily called the ProPilot Park Ryokan – is offering the traditional slippers for guests to slip on when the arrive, but these slippers are powered by Nissan’s ProPilot Park and will take themselves back to where they belong at the push of a button.

Not only that, but guests will also be able to rearrange the low tables and floor cushions and, again at the press of a button, have them go back to where they belong. All properly parked, thanks to Nissan’s ProPilot Park gubbins.

It’s a quirky way to show off the technology’s abilities, but it’s a good thing it’s happening in ultra polite Japan. Can you imagine the possible pranks with slippers with little wheels on them in a UK hotel?
