Nissan and Infiniti to deliver SIX new EVs by 2023

Nissan and Infiniti will deliver six new electric vehicles in the next five years – pure BEVs, not plug-in hybrids – with Nissan delivering four and Infiniti two.

The new Nissan LEAF has shown how much Nissan has learned about delivering an electric car which really can be a replacement for an ICE car for the majority of buyers, and it’s planning to capitalise on that experience in the next five years.

According to Toshihiro Hirai, Nissan’s EV VP, that will mean four new battery electric vehicles from Nissan and a further two from Infiniti.

That doesn’t include hybrid cars from Nissan either, just pure BEVs, but Nissan is also committed to delivering new models for the global market with their e-Power range extender setup currently only available in Japan.

The plan includes every model from Infiniti coming as either a BEV or a range-extender e-Power hybrid by 2021, as Infiniti look to compete with the EV offerings coming from makers like Jaguar, Mercedes and Audi.

But Nissan’s ambitions go further in China, with plans to introduce 20 new electrified vehicles with Chinese partner Dongfeng in the next five years as part of an investment of £7 billion in electrification, including the arrival of three new compact EVs in 2019.
