Infiniti Electric Crossover Concept teased ahead of Detroit debut
Infiniti – the posh arm of Nissan – previews a new electric car crossover concept heading for a reveal at the Detroit Motor Show.
You might reasonably have expected that Infiniti, as Nissan’s answer to brands like Lexus, would have been heavily in to electric cars by now considering Nissan has been at the forefront of the electric car revolution from long before it became cool to think EVs are really the future. We have of course had electric car concepts from Infiniti before, including the retro-racer Project 10 and the Q Inspiration as a look at a future electric saloon (and even the E-Merge range-extender), but neither have looked like they were heading for production.
So Infiniti doesn’t seem to have be in any great rush to deliver an actual production EV, but they are going to have to start getting a shake on if they’re going to deliver every model in their range as a BEV or e-Power hybrid by 2021 as they declared at the start of the year.
So perhaps the new Infiniti Electric Crossover Concept previewed today with a single image (above) is a first look at a proper production car from posh Nissan complete with new EV platform. No details are yet available – although Nissan’s long experience with EV powertrains will no doubt play a big role, but Infiniti has said:
The concept car we will show in Detroit is the beginning of a new era for INFINITI, and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand. Electrification and other new technologies have given us the opportunity to evolve our design philosophy.
More will be revealed in the next few weeks as the Infiniti EV heads for the Detroit Motor Show.
