Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR arrives
VW is saying goodbye to the current Golf GTI with the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, a Golf GTI with 286bhp and DSG ‘box.
Last month we had what looked like a goodbye to the current VW Golf Mk 7 with the launch of the new Golf Match models, and now we get another goodbye for the Golf with the arrival of the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.The Golf GTI TCR has the genes of the 2016 TCR touring car, although it’s a much more sybaritic experience than any touring car you’ll find.
In the TCR, the Golf comes with 286bhp from its 2.0 litre turbo – good for 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds – with power going through a DSG ‘box, and gets stuff like Front Assist, Active Info Display and LED headlights.
Standard equipment includes a front axle diff lock (despite all the power this GTI is still FWD), perforated disc brakes, driver profiles, sports seats, red-edged seat belts, perforated leather and an exclusive steering wheel.
The TCR also gets 18″ Belvedere alloys (amusingly, the option is ‘Milton Keynes’ alloys), black exterior highlights, TCR roof spoiler, rear diffuser and TCR puddle lights.
There are a number of options, including a pack offering 19″ Reifnitz alloys, a sports version of the rear damping and DCC adaptive chassis, and another pack offering Pretoria alloys with semi slicks and a vMax upgrade (to 161mph).
No price yet for the UK for the Golf GTI TCR, but in Germany it costs €38,950.
