Skoda Kamiq – Skoda names its third SUV
The third Skoda SUV in Skoda’s lineup of SUVs will be called the Skoda Kamiq, a name already used by Skoda in China for an SUV.
It’s just a few days since Skoda teased the arrival of a third SUV for the UK and Europe heading for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, but they didn’t come up with a name.It doesn’t take an expert to expect the name for Skoda’s new SUV to start with a ‘K’ – and probably end in a ‘Q’. But it looks like Skoda have run out of suitable names, so it’s borrowed a name already used in China for a Skoda SUV – the Skoda Kamiq.
Skoda say Kamiq comes from the language of the Inuits in Canada and Greenland and describes something that fits as a second skin in every situation. So now you know, even if you care little.
Most buyers won’t care about the name of Skoda’s take on VW Group cars like the SEAT Arona and VW T-Cross, but they will care that it’s likely to be cheaper than the VW, offer more space and some ‘Simply Clever’ features.
You’ll need to look at Skoda’s Vision X Concept for an idea of what the new Kamiq will look like, and you can expect the usual VW Group diesels and petrols under the bonnet, although there is a chance the Kamiq will come with a hybrid option too.
Expect more teasers for the Kamiq before it’s officially revealed in March in Geneva.
