The Skoda Vision X Concept will arrive in March 2019
The Skoda Vision X – a compact SV which arrived in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show last month – will arrive in production guise at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
The Volkswagen Group are going hybrid and SUV in a big way, and the Skoda Vision X Concept – a compact SUV Concept which debuted at Geneva last month – will turn in to the next Skoda SUV with a ‘K’ name at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019.With a design which will change little from the Vision X, the production model will add to Skoda’s current SUV offerings – the Kodiaq and Karoq – and it looks like Skoda has big ambitions for their take on the VW T-Roc.
Speaking to Auto News Europe, Skoda’s head of Sales and Marketing, Alan Favey, confirmed that Skoda are setting ambitious sales targets for the new compact SUV. He wouldn’t be drawn on numbers, but he did say they expect it to be the second best-selling SUV in their range, and with underpinnings the same as the VW T-Roc and SEAT Arona there’s no reason to doubt the assertion.
What Skoda are also hoping to do with the new SUV is to give it a hybrid powertrain option. The Vision X came with an ICE at the front – powered by CNG or petrol – an electric back axle and a belt-driven 48v mild hybrid system, and Skoda are hoping to deliver something similar in the production model.
No doubt we’ll hear more about Skoda’s new compact SUV as we move towards its launch in 2019, as well as what made-up ‘K’ name it will get.
