Tesla Model Y SUV will be REVEALED on 14 March 2019
The Tesla Model Y – Tesla’s SUV take on the Model 3 – will be revealed on 14 March 2019 and go on sale in 2020.
Tesla say they will also be revealing details of models and specs for the Model Y at the reveal, and that there will be test rides on offer too at the launch.
Tesla say the Model Y will be around 10 per cent bigger than the Model 3 on which it’s based, and will cost around 10 per cent more. It will also use the same batteries as the Model 3, so its larger size will mean a reduced range compared to the Model 3.
Tesla will be building the Model Y – which, sensibly, won’t get the Falcon doors from the Model X – at their Gigafactory in Nevada, with plans afoot to also build it in a new Gigafactory its building in Shanghai.
Assuming Tesla’s outline for the Model Y’s price point is accurate (not always something you can rely on) it should end up in the UK starting at under £40k.
Also on the way from Tesla – to go with the Model Y and the big price cuts for the Model S and Model X – is its new Supercharger stations, expected to offer charging rates of up to 350kWh to match those being rolled out by Ionity and Porsche.
