Electric Porsche Macan Coupe and LWB on the cards

When the electric Porsche Macan arrives in 2021, you can almost certainly expect to see a Macan Coupe and even a LWB Macan, according to Porsche’s Michael Steiner.

It’s only a few weeks since Porsche confirmed the electric Macan will arrive in 2021 as Porsche’s drive towards an electric future gains momentum.

But the surprising news that the new 2021 Macan will be an electric only model doesn’t mean you won’t be able to buy a petrol Macan after 2021. You will, but it will be the current (upgraded) Macan, and Porsche say it will stick around until buyers decide they don’t want it anymore.

It seems the new electric Macan won’t be a single model but, according to Porsche’s R&D man Michael Steiner, speaking to Dutch magazine Zerauto, there are likely to be extra variants.

According to Steiner, Porsche are considering what to call the Macan’s variants (because ‘Turbo’ doesn’t fit with EVs, despite Porsche confirming a Taycan Turbo), but they’re also looking at different body styles too.

Steiner flagged up a Macan Coupe as something Porsche are looking at (and after the Cayenne Coupe it seems very sensible), but also a long wheelbase version, which might not garner much enthusiasm in the UK and Europe, but would probably be lapped up in China – Porsche’s biggest market.

As Porsche’s best-selling model, adding not just an electric version but additional body styles can only mean more sales.

And more sales means more development money for the cars Porsche lovers really care about.
