Tesla Model 3 will now charge at 200kW – if you can find a fast enough charger

Tesla Model 3 will now charge at 200kW

The Tesla Model 3 – Tesla’s entry-level EV – is arriving in the UK this month, and it will now charge at up to 200kW.

Two years on from going on sale in the US, the Tesla Model 3 finally went on sale in the UK in May and, with first UK deliveries due this month, the Tesla Model 3 will soon be turning up on a road near you.

Despite Tesla’s production woes, and some concerns over build quality, the Model 3 is an appealing buy, with prices starting from £38k delivering a properly practical electric family car with the sort of range that will calm the most range-anxious of owners.

Even the £38k entry-level Model 3 gets an official range of 258 miles, but spend out on the dual motor Long Range model and you get 4WD and a range of 358 miles for £48k. And if you want performance from your Model 3 then the Performance model (£57k) gives you 0-60mph in a scant 3.2 seconds and yet still offers a range of 329 miles (unless you use that performance).

What is also now on offer for the Model 3, thanks to an over air update, is the ability to charge at rates of up to 200kW, something Tesla’s own Supercharger network doesn’t yet offer (you’ll have to wait for V3 Superchargers in the UK for that).

That rate of charge will let you add over 800 miles of range for every hour you’re plugged in to a charger, although the only place in the UK you’ll be able to do that is at Ionity’s new 350kW station in Maidstone.

When Tesla does get round to introducing V3 Supercharger stations in the UK, the Tesla Model 3 will be able to charge at 250kW.

Looks to me that toyota may have the edge with solid statew (cheaper, better) batteries powering their EV’s from a slated 2020.
How willing will they be to provide access to this breakthrough technology?
Also what is Madzda’s take on the world of EV’s. I love my CX5 but I wont have another Diesel and I dont like the petrol version.

Toyota has already stated it won’t be sharing its battery tech (https://www.carsuk.net/toyota-wont-share-600-mile-ev-battery-technology/).
