New Honda E Urban EV Platform and Battery details
The Honda e – the car we knew as the Honda Urban EV – will get a 125-mile range from a 35.5 kWh battery and chassis perfect for urban environments.
The cute, funky Honda e (which sounded better as the Honda Urban EV), with its retro- boxy shape and compact dimensions is aiming to be a winner in electric urban transport. And the announcement of proper spec for the Honda E looks set to cement that belief.Rather than burden the Honda e with a big battery pack for big range boats, Honda has stayed true to the ethos behind the Concept’s’Urban’ moniker by delivering a battery pack with a range entirely suited to an urban car.
That means a 35.5 kWh battery promising a range of 125 miles, offering regular Type 2 AC connection but also CCS2 DC rapid charge for quicker refills and to make it practical – with a bit of planning – to roam outside urban areas when needed; 80 per cent charge will take less than 30 minutes with the rapid charger.
Under the skin is a new platform, with the battery pack low and central, offering a great combination of comfort and agility and, dare we say, even fun with its RWD setup.
Phil Webb, Head of Honda UK, said:
Confirmation of the chassis, platform, battery and charging details of the Honda e marks a key milestone in our preparations to unveil the final production version of the model later this year. I’m looking forward to seeing the Honda e Prototype in action for the first time in the UK at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month.
With more than 9,000 UK drivers already delivering expressions of interest in the Honda e, you can expect it to become ubiquitous in towns and cities when it arrives later this year.
