Bentley Bentayga plug-in Hybrid
The new Bentley Bentayga plug-in Hybrid SUV arrives on sale for £133k with a plug-in hybrid powertrain promising 24-mile EV range and slashed emissions.
There is no way, in our climate change obsessed world that a Bentley, any Bentley, can be considered ‘Green’. But that isn’t stopping Bentley claiming their new Bentayga Hybrid is exactly that. But, relatively speaking, it is. Or can be.It could be a chunk greener than other Bentaygas if owners can be bothered to plug it in, but then, with a claimed range of just 24 EV miles – and probably mid-teens in the real world – will most owners be bothered?
If they can’t be bothered then they’ll be mashing the pedal to the floor to try and shift a car the weight of a small planet with a 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine. Because that’s what delivers the ICE power in this plug-in Bentley. And then it’ll probably use as much fuel as the V8 or 12-pot Bentaygas.
But join up the dots and keep the battery full and Bentley say the Bentayga Hybrid will scoot to 62mph in 5.5 seconds, deliver 516lb/ft of torque and return emissions of just 79g/km and economy of 80.7mpg
Revealed in March ahead of its Geneva debut, the Bentayga Hybrid is now on sale in the UK, and it’ll cost from £133k. Which isn’t far off a loaded Range Rover.
