The Bentley Bentayga Hybrid has been revealed ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, promising to be the most frugal Bentley ever produced.
Bentley threw itself in to the luxury SUV ring with the Bentayga a few years ago, and it’s working rather well.
Sales of the Bentayga have been strong, and Bentley has sensibly extended its Bentayga offering by adding both a diesel option and a V8 engine option to the initial W12. But now it’s time for a bit of ‘Green’ Bentley.
Revealed ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid does what it says on the tin and delivers a Bentayga with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, promising to be the most frugal Bentley ever.
In almost every way the Bentayga Hybrid is just another Bentayga, but there are hybrid-specific bits if you look.
The normal driving mods in the Bentayga are supplemented by hybrid and EV modes, its infotainment gives you EV information, there’s an extra ‘filler’ cap to plug-in, and some copper ‘Hybrid’ Badges. Oh, and you can have a posh home charger designed by Philippe Starck.
Bentley aren’t keen to divulge what goes on under the bonnet, save to say it’s a petrol V6, electric motor and batteries which will deliver 75g/km emissions and a 30 mile EV range after a 7.5 hour charge at home.
But we’re assuming it’s all borrowed from Porsche, so it should mean something around 465bhp, which should make the Bentayga Hybrid agreeably lively, as well as BIK friendly.
Bentley say the Bentayga is the world’s first luxury hybrid. That may irritate Land Rover with their Range Rover Hybrid, but Bentley clearly consider Range Rover merely ‘Premium’. We’ll have to wait for the Rolls-Royce Cullinan before the Bentayga has competition, at least in Bentley’s eyes.
The Bentley Bentayga Hybrid will be available to order from the second half of 2018.
