Fiat Panda gets 2010 updates

September 28, 2009 By Cars UK

Fiat has updated the Panda for 2010

Fiat has updated the Panda for 2010

Fiat has made a number of small changes to the Panda for 2010, including cosmetic tweaks and a new engine choice.

If you think about the Fiat Panda at all, you probably tend to think of it as a relic from Fiat’s past. A car that’s still made but just doesn’t cut the mustard up against more recent offerings from Fiat. But actually, you’d be wrong. Since the current Panda was launched in 2003, it’s sold over 1.5 million. Yep, an average of 250,000 a year. That’s around 50% more than the entire output of JLR. So it’s sales are significant.

Underrated though the Panda is, it’s actually a pretty good little car. Sure, it’s not exactly dynamic, but some of it’s iterations – particularly the go-anywhere Panda Cross 4×4 – are very good. So Fiat has decided it’s time for a bit of spit and polish and some new make-up, so it’s given the Panda a bit of an update for 2010.

Nothing too drastic, mind you. You’ll have to look quite hard to see what’s been done. The grill gets the same body-coloured treatment as the 4×4, there’s some new choices on the alloys, the roof bars get a bit of silver paint and the door mirrors grow in size.

The inside changes are even more minor. The instrument panel gets new graphics and you get a new choice of trim colour. And that’s it. As I said. Nothing too drastic.

The major oily bit change is the introduction of a new 69bhp 1.2 litre petrol that emits 113g/km CO2. The rest of the engine options remain unchanged for 2010.

Not sure that’s true. Our files tell us that Fiat were replacing the old 60bhp lump with a Euro 5 69bhp one. They may have tweaked the trim options but as far as we know there is a Euro 5 1.2 litre going forward.

No, the Panda ELeganza is not available at this moment in time.
I have also read Fiat have delayed the new model due to the financial problems within Italy.

Fiat confirm by e-mail that no assembly of the Eleganza will be forthcoming for the time being.

        I assume this true.

Surely, that’s what ‘underrated’ implies doesn’t it?  Quality journalism, that.
