Affordable Uniti One EV goes on sale
The Uniti One EV electric City car has now gone on sale in the UK and Sweden, although you can easily spend far more than the £15k headline price.
A few days ago we revealed the Uniti One EV, a very compact, three-seat electric City Car, designed in Sweden and being developed and built in the UK. And it’s an interesting offering.Managing to fit three seats in to a compact City Car, with a modest 12kWh battery pack delivering enough juice for a 93 mile range and a starting price of just £15,100 (after plug-in grant) it looks a perfect little city EV.
Since that report a few days ago, Uniti has put the One EV on sale, and has already taken over 1,000 orders in the UK and Sweden, and many more have been playing with the Uniti One EV’s configurator. And we’re not surprised.
Not everyone looking for an electric car wants a lump of a thing with a massive battery pack weighing the size of a small moon, and costing as much as a small house, but the idea of a little urban runaround as a second car for local journeys in an urban environment at a decent price is appealing.
But if that’s how you’re thinking, then do be a bit careful if you decide to pop off to Uniti’s site and build and order yourself a Uniti One.
The headline price is, after plug-in grant, a very reasonable £15,100, but if you decide to improve the offering then costs do add up quite a lot.
We did think that fast charging was part of the spec, but it seems you need to pay an extra £3,000 if you want anything more than a 3.2kW charging, and if you decide you’d rather like a bit more range, then upping the battery from the standard 12kWH to 24kWh will cost you another £3,000. So you’re up to £21k before you know it, and before you start playing with paint and lights and other options.
But if you want the Uniti One as a runaround in town, ignore the options and grab the basic spec car; 93 miles of range is enough, and with a 12kWh battery even charging at a rate of 3.2kW means it’ll only take a few hours to have full charge.
