The Stig Saga rolls on!
As we reported a few weeks ago, White Stig (the Top Gear test driver) was outed as Ben Collins, and we speculated, as did everyone else, whether this would be the end of White Stig. After all, when Black Stig was outed as Perry McCarthy he was unceremoniously killed-off by drowning when his XJS flew off the end of HMS Invincible.
Top Gear were understandably miffed that White Stig has been outed, and have tried to obfuscate the issue by claiming that White Stig was many people, or that he was Archbishop Robert Mugabe or Mr Bean (or whatever name jumped in to Jeremy’s head when questioned!). But now they’re on to a different tack. Black Stig is Back!
It would seem that TG has decided they can get a lot of publicity out of this (not that they really need it) and want to keep this viral story running on. So a video has surfaced of Black Stig’s Lazarus moment. According to a press release from the Beeb:
“Until now, the original Stig from BBC Top Gear was thought to have been killed back in 2003, when he drove a modified Jaguar XJS off the end of HMS Invincible aircraft carrier at 109mph. The nation was shocked that the Stig was dead. However, recent footage has been found on YouTube showing that he miraculously survived.
How he survived, nobody knows. Some believe he used the nitrous octane equipment from the Jag to breathe. Some believe he can communicate with dolphins and they cared for him. Has he returned because he can sense White Stig has had his identity exposed?”
So, they’re going to milk this for all it’s worth, and why not? This should run and run!
