Bristol Cars, makers of eccentric British Supercars, has been bought by one-time rivals Frazer Nash, saving them from Bankruptcy
At the start of the month we ran a story that Bristol Cars had been bought by a Chinese Tractor Company. Which, although slightly unlikely, seemed entirely plausible.
Entirely plausible simply because China is on a mission to buy up evrey Western Car Maker it can, from Volvo to the makers of the London Taxi.
Fortunately, we did do a bit of homework before we ran the story and discovered the story was news to the administrators. Which made it a little unlikely to be true. Turns out it was a Chinese April Fool, although we still can’t work out the logic.
Still, daft Chinese pranks apart, we can now report that Bristol Cars has really been sold to Frazer-Nash. Yes, that’s the same Frazer Nash who made cars not dis-similar to Bristol in the 1960s, and who actually used Bristol engines in their cars.
Nowadays, Frazer-Nash is a British research and engineering firm, specialising in building hybrid and range extenders, hence their supercar EV concept the Namir from a couple of years ago which promised 0-60mph in 3 seconds.
It looks as if Frazer-Nash are committed to re-building the Bristol Cars brand, and maintaining service to the owners of Bristol Cars. In the next few months they expect to reveal plans to incorporate their hybrid and range extending technology in Bristol Cars. Which means a Bristol EV.
Interestingly, it looks like Vlad and CPP were also in the running. As we suggested.

seems CarsUK got taken by an April Fools Day joke all the way from China!!

Yes, you’re right – the Chinese mugged us!
In mitigation, although we did buy the story, the fact that China is buying the West up piece by piece makes almost any story coming from China like this potentially plausible. And we did partially cover our embarrassment at the time by reporting the Administrators as having no knowledge of this, so it probably wasn’t true.
Still, we do know the Frazer Nash deal is true!

This must be a good outcome for Bristol Cars. Fraser Nash are a good company and an electric Bristol with a range extender sounds perfect.
