Caterham-Lola SP/300.R
Caterham reveals the Caterham-Lola SP/300.R, a 300bhp sub-600kg track car destined for a one-make series. And possibly spawning a road car.
For the first time in a generation – well, 15 years – Caterham has produced a new car. And although it’s a track car – initially destined for a one-make series – it could spawn a new road car.
The Caterham-Lola SP/300.R weighs in at under 600kg and features a bespoke Lola chassis and a Ford Duratec engine good for 300bhp. The Lola chassis is said to be bespoke to the SP/300.R and the car carries design cues from the now iconic Seven.
Full race suspension is by way of double wishbones and pushrod dampers. The ride height is adjustable and the wheels and tyres are completely bespoke.
The 2.0 litre Ford Duratec is tweaked and tuned by Caterham to deliver 300bhpo and drives through a semi-auto Hewland ‘box. The sub-600kg weight comes in to play in a big way, with the 300bhp yielding a 0-60mph of just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 170mph. Caterham are planning to build 25 Caterham-Lola SP/300.R cars each year at £60,000 + tax.
