The Chevrolet Orlando starts at £16,395

Chevrolet has announced price and model detail for the Chevy Orlando MPV. Starts at £16,395 and arrives in showrooms in Spring 2011.

Chevrolet introduced their compact MPV – the Chevrolet Orlando – at this year’s Paris Motor Show as a tame version of the original Orlando Concept we saw back in 2008. It’s sort of what you expect from a Concept – the drama goes when production dawns – but the production Orlando is a bit visually underwhelming.

But despite the less than eye-catching exterior the Orlando has done well to pack seven seats in to the underpinnings of the Cruze/Volt, with the rear rows of seats able to move and fold to give decent flexibility.

There seem to be ample storage spaces for bits and bobs and there’s even a secret storage space behind the faceplate of the audio system to hide your iPod. Which is a brilliant idea as long as no one would-be thief knows there’s a secret panel behind the audio facia.

The entry-level Orlando – the Orlando LS – gets AirCon and electric windows as standard with the next up – the Orlando LT – adding parking sensors, 16″ alloys, Climate, better sound and USB connectivity. Top of the tree Orlando LTZ gets 17″ alloys, Cruise and auto lights and wipers.

On the oily front, the Orlando LS comes with either the 1.8 litre, 140PS petrol or the new 130PS 2.0 litre diesel. Move up to the LT or LTZ and you can also opt for the more powerful 163PS diesel on which you can specify a 6-speed auto.

Starting point for the Orlando is the 1.8 litre petrol LS with manual ‘box at £16,395 and top of the heap is the LTZ with Exec  Pack and auto ‘box at £23,195.

Despite its bland looks the Orlando does look decent value. We’ll see how it drives when GM send us one.
