DC Design to reveal India’s first Supercar at Delhi Motor Show

India Supercar DC Design

India's first Supercar by DC Design

Indian car customisers DC Design are to reveal a home-grown, mid-engined supercar at the Delhi Motor Show next week.

DC Design might not be the first name to spring to mind when you think of car customisers, but if you just happen to be one of India’s wealthy car nuts then DC Design will probably be one of the first names you think of.

From wild and slightly wacky takes on a Rolls Royce Coupe to SUV madness with the Porsche Cayenne, DC Design has pandered to the wilder flights of fancy of India’s spiritual successors to the car-mad Maharajas. And now they’re going the next step by moving from car customisers to car makers, with the promise that they will launch ‘India’s first Supercar’ at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.

The DC Design Supercar is said to be mid-engined – with a turbo V6 from Honda producing over 400bhp – and weigh in at around 1560kg with a footprint similar to that of a Lamborghini Aventador. DC had planned to call it the Buddh – after India’s F1 Circuit – but research found the name didn’t resonate so they’re busy thinking up a new one before the Delhi Show kicks off on Thursday.

Whatever DC decide to call the first home-grown Supercar in India, it will be unveiled on the 5th January by Amitabh Bachchan – perhaps India’s most notable Bollywood Star – with plans to put the DC Supercar in to production by the end of 2013. Initial plans are for 300 cars in the first year and hopes that sales could hit 3,000 car a year subsequently.

That may seem a lot of sales for a Supercar from an unknown car maker, but even with a relatively paltry 400bhp (certainly by supercar standards), the mid-engined silhouette above looks promising, but not half as promising as the price. DC Design say their Indian Supercar will cost around 30 lahk, which is about £36,000.

A very small price for a supercar.

Never mind ‘Call me Dave and Top Gear trying to flog British goods to India. If this super car from India is half as good as it sounds, the trade will all be the other way!!

400bhp may not be a lot of power for a supercar, but the weight isn’t much more than a TT RS which only gets 340bhp. That should mean Indias first supercar hitting 60mph in under 4 seconds. For £36000 that’s impressive.
