Electric Porsche Taycan ‘Revealed’ in Shanghai

The Porsche Taycan Prototype is in Shanghai for public demo runs at the Porsche Experience Centre, followed by an outing at Goodwood and in New York.

It may be a Porsche Taycan prototype – and, say Porsche, it’s still camouflaged – but the Taycan is getting a public outing at the Porsche Experience Centre in Shanghai in the build-up to its public debut in September.

Making three appearances in three weeks on three continents, Porsche is visiting China, the UK and US with the Taycan to let it strut its stuff in public and nail down those potential buyers who still aren’t quite sure an electric Taycan is the Porsche for them.

At each location there will be a different star driver, and in China it’s Li Chao and ‘his’ Taycan gets a Dragon graphic on the roof, and when the Taycan arrives in Goodwood it will be Mark Webber behind the wheel and in New York Neel Jani, and they’ll get different roof graphics.

The Porsche Triple Demo Run for the Taycan aims to showcase the performance of the Taycan, delivering 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and 124mph in under 12.0 seconds, and it should be quite a sight – if not an aural delight – to see it flying up the Goodwood Hillcimb.

Li Chao, the driver of the Taycan for the Shanghai outing, said:

From uncompromisingly sporty to surprisingly comfortable, the chassis of the new Taycan covers a wide range and successfully combines the precise handling of a sports car and the long-distance comfort of a saloon. In addition to its low centre of gravity, the rear-axle steering also plays a crucial role. The Taycan steers into corners very directly and has plenty of grip.
