COLOGNE, December 15, 2009 – Ford of Europe will unveil new versions of its top-selling S-MAX and Galaxy at the 2010 Brussels Show on January 13. With fresh designs, they feature new interior materials and features, a range of more efficient powertrains and a host of driver focused technologies aimed at improving safety and comfort.

The 2010 S-MAX and Galaxy models kick off an exciting year for new product introductions from Ford of Europe.

“We’ve given both models a fresh new look and more premium appeal, but it is beneath the skin that the major changes have been made,” said John Fleming, Executive Vice President and Chairman & CEO, Ford of Europe. “S-MAX and Galaxy are the first European Ford models to benefit from our global EcoBoost family of direct-injection, turbocharged, petrol engines delivering more power and performance from a lower displacement powerplant, yet with impressive fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. And that is just the start of the 2010 S-MAX and Galaxy story.”

These are the first cars to be available with Ford’s all-new, high efficiency, 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. Producing 203PS it joins a significantly improved 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel, with 140PS, plus a new 163PS variant. Additionally, the Ford PowerShift double wet-clutch transmission system is available for the first time on Ford’s large car range; it will be standard equipment with the EcoBoost petrol engine and optional with both Duratorq diesels.

A range of innovative new safety and convenience features debut on versions of the new S-MAX and Galaxy, including a Blind Spot Information System.

More Distinctive Outside

From launch in 2006 the S-MAX quickly established itself as a car without peers – a sporty, high quality and well-equipped crossover that provides the benefits of a people mover, but without sacrificing style or driving enjoyment.

The new model maintains this tradition and has been thoughtfully updated with significant detail changes to the exterior including a strongly sculptured bonnet and all-new front fascia, emphasised by a gloss black lower front trapezoidal grille. This gives S-MAX a distinctive presence on the road, and a new lower front bumper comes with distinctive LED daytime running lights on high series (Titanium and Titanium X Sport) models.

The rear of new S-MAX has been re-designed with a more dynamically profiled tailgate and new LED tail lights that extend deep into the rear side flanks. Boosting its premium appeal is a horizontal satin chrome bar which runs between the LED tail lights and is embossed with the S-MAX logo.

The new Galaxy also features a re-designed frontal section. A new, more sculptured, bonnet combines with new front fascia design – incorporating a bolder lower trapezoidal grille with inserts featuring subtle chrome bars – and new-look fog lights. Titanium and Titanium X models are differentiated further with chrome bars in the upper grille as well.

The roof incorporates new bolder integrated silver rails, while at the rear, distinctive new LED lights and a body-coloured lower fascia are standard equipment.

More Luxurious Inside

Carefully balanced new colour and material choices deliver a luxurious and dynamic feel.

For both vehicles, the Ford FoldFlatSystem comes as standard for the second and third row of seats.

S-MAX high series models get a new multifunctional overhead console with generous stowage, sunglasses holder and child-watch mirror, and a new one-piece panorama roof equipped with power sun blinds. For the first time high series S-MAX models, and all models fitted with the panorama roof, get a new LED interior lighting system.

Loading through the rear tailgate is also made easier thanks to a new courtesy light, fitted into the inside panel on the liftgate, that illuminates when opened.

Power and Economy: EcoBoost SCTi, Duratorq TDCi and PowerShift

Ford’s new S-MAX and Galaxy are the first vehicles to offer an all-new 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost SCTi engine, which heralds a new era in Ford’s petrol engine development. Featuring lightweight all-aluminium construction, the latest-generation high-pressure direct injection system, low-inertia turbocharging and twin independent variable cam timing, the 2.0-litre EcoBoost SCTi has an advanced combustion system which brings new levels of performance and fuel efficiency to petrol engines in this power range.

The 2.0-litre EcoBoost SCTi engine has a maximum output of 203PS at 5,500 rpm, combined with maximum torque of 300Nm, which is delivered across a broad 1,750-4,500 rpm range. With this new powertrain, the S-MAX achieves 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds (8.8 seconds for the Galaxy) and a top speed of 137mph (135mph for the Galaxy.)

Yet even with this responsive performance, fuel economy and CO2 emissions are significantly improved. Compared with the previous 161PS 2.3-litre automatic powertrain, CO2 is reduced by 19 per cent to 189g/km, even though the new 2.0-litre SCTi engine has over 25 per cent more power. This translates into a combined fuel economy of just 34.8mpg* and an extra urban figure of 44.1 mpg*.

At the same time, Ford’s diesel offering for the new S-MAX and Galaxy has been significantly improved. The upgraded 2.0-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi engine family complies with Stage V emission regulations and is also available in three power levels – 115, 140 and 163PS – for the first time.

Engineered to deliver refined performance and low cost of ownership, these new Duratorq TDCi engines also deliver impressive combined fuel economy and CO2 performance. With a consumption of 49.5mpg* and an average CO2 emission of 152g/km, the new S-MAX and Galaxy, with six-speed manual transmission, prove that it is possible to combine driving fun and compelling performance with high efficiency.

The efficient and smooth-changing Ford PowerShift double wet-clutch transmission is a perfect match for both the new petrol direct injection and common rail diesel engines. It is standard with the new EcoBoost SCTi and available as an option with the 140 and

163PS versions of the 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi.

New Features Further Enhance Safety and Comfort

From the outset the new S-MAX and Galaxy were designed and developed to offer customers a premium travelling experience and, to achieve this, an already compelling range of features in the previous models was updated and broadened for even greater safety and comfort.

Jörg Beyer, Ford of Europe’s Vehicle Line Director for Large and Luxury Vehicles said: “The sheer number of Ford milestones we have delivered with the new S-MAX and Galaxy, in terms of vehicle design, powertrain technology and features, is big enough to make you think they are all-new vehicles. Our European Ford flagships deserve this treatment – and we are convinced that our customers will appreciate it.”

The new S-MAX and Galaxy are Ford of Europe’s first vehicles to feature the new Blind Spot Information System. This radar-based technology warns drivers of vehicles in their blind spot area. Also, the new Adjustable Speed Limiter Device (ASLD) is designed to help drivers set, and then not exceed, specific speed limits unintentionally – another first for Ford of Europe.

High series versions of the new S-MAX feature extensive applications of Light Emitting Diode technology, with LED daytime running lights as standard and LED illumination inside. All versions fitted with the panorama roof also benefit.

High series versions of both the S-MAX and Galaxy are also equipped with powerful courtesy lights located on the lower inside corners of the tailgate to illuminate the load area and all versions of both S-MAX and Galaxy come with LED tail lights as standard.

The comfort of passengers in both vehicles also motivated further refinements to the climate control system, which now features a new ventilated temperature and humidity sensor mounted in the steering column shroud for more sensitive control of the cabin air.

Additional trademark technologies already available on other Ford models are now being made available on S-MAX and Galaxy for the first time. These include the Ford Keyless System and the award-winning Ford EasyFuel capless refuelling system.

Sophisticated, Flexible Manufacturing

As with previous models, the new S-MAX and Galaxy share the same assembly line with the Mondeo at Ford of Europe’s Genk manufacturing facility in Belgium.

A highly sophisticated, flexible and lean manufacturing process allows Ford to adjust the sequence and production quantity of different vehicles within its large and luxury car range, ensuring that it can respond very quickly to changes in customer demand.

Pioneering New Technology

“S-MAX and Galaxy were the first Ford vehicles to include elements of our ‘kinetic design’ styling theme,” added John Fleming, “More importantly, they began to change the way that many people thought about the Ford brand.

“As they sit alongside Mondeo at the top of the Ford range in Europe, it is essential that we use these models again as pioneers for the introduction of new and innovative technologies that will characterise Ford’s ambitious product launch calendar for 2010,” said Mr Fleming.

Further details of the new Ford S-MAX and Galaxy models will be released closer to launch in early 2010.

*Note: Fuel economy figures quoted are based on the European Fuel Economy Directive EU 80/1268/EEC and will differ from fuel economy drive cycle results in other regions of the world

After all of the trouble many of us have experienced in actually getting our vehicles, I have to say that I have had countless problems with my S-Max. Failed instruments, turbo problems, clutch issues and total failure on several occasions. Now totally fed up of the car and it has been returned to Motability, and I am back in private car ownership. Nice car the S-Max…. potentially, but in my experience ruined by shoddy build, poor quality and a dealer who does not deserve the title.

the dealers are the problem, mine was a waste of space.
they knew nothing about the car and i had to tell them about what the car came with and what colors where available.
if ford made more effort getting there dealers up to standard then maybe buying a ford would be more enjoyable.

Hi, I ordered my Galaxy ( auto ) at the end of June and the dealer told me Sept delivery but he told Motability Nov!!! The dealer new I had urgent need of this vehicle as I am now having to swap from using a scooter to an electric wheelchair and my present vehicle is unsuitable. If I had been told the truth
about the delivery date I would of looked elsewhere. The dealer has just given me an estimated build date of 3rd Nov and a delivery date of 18th Dec!!! Personally I wouldn’t wait 6 Months for a hand built Rolls Royce never mind a Ford. Until I get this vehicle I’m house bound. You would think Ford would at least give out an apology and Motability send a warning to all new customers of the delivery time on all the affected Ford vehicles!!

Hi Karen, despite the press release coming out last December, Ford and Motability didn’t get their acts together to get the advanced payment prices sorted until the middle of May which was when many of us ordered our cars. I ordered mine on 14th May and FINALLY picked it up today….!

to anyone who is waiting for the galaxy hang in there as it is well worth the wait.

My S-Max Titianium has arrived and modifications fitted so will collect Saturday. Going to call Ford customer service but not hopeful of even an apology over change of colour (minor really) and delays and extra cost (had to buy space pack) and confusion over prices and the fact that the Ford Mobility site still has the wrong price list and information.

Good luck to everyone else waiting hopefully FMC have now got their fingers out and will get onto delivering the long stamding orders.

Took delivery of car on Saturday did less than 100 miles and PowerShift box had errors.

Took car into dealers on Monday they looked into errors and said it needed analysis. Had to take in on Tuesday and leave with them as it only uses 1st, 3rd and 5th.

New gearbox needed (5-7 days) so won’t have car back for over 10 days.

Off to a bad start. Not sure if I need to contact Motability on this yet.

the problem was with the right hand drive engines and the supply of the complete units ot individual parts, this has now been sortted and production has started up again.
the only renault that is the same size as the alaxy is the espace which is a fair bit more expensive than the galaxy.
hope youve made the right choice to go with the renault and not wait for the galaxy.
like all new vehicles and machines the first runs from the factory do have teething troubles that take time to sort out.
    good luck.

Oh, well now for some even more depressing news. Despite the fact that my car was ordered in May, was built in the middle of September, and – ha ha – will apparently be with us by mid-October (and pigs might fly), the advance payment went down in 3Q10 (we’d paid £2650 and were told if it went down we’d only pay the reduced price upon delivery of the car). Great, we thought. We’d been promised the car by the end of July, having ordered it in May. Now our estimated delivery date is mid-October and lo and behold, the advanced payment for Oct – Dec is now £3350. Now how did I know that would happen? 🙁

What we needed was extra boot space and the Renault Grand Scenic offers that. It is also considerably cheaper, it has a much higher specification than the Ford too. It is faster yet just as economical.

When I cancelled the Ford they didn’t even have the courtesy to contact me, I did it by leaving a message because, everyone I needed to speak to was, once again, out that day. They promised to cancel yet, the next day, Motability had to call to arrange the cancellation. Ford UK called me to ask if there had been any progress. I explained I’d cancelled by message and she said that someone should have contacted me from the dealership as a courtesy and discussed refund of deposit, I just got a cheque in the post.

The Galaxy may or may not have been the perfect car for me, I’ll never know. What I do know is this, if the people expecting customers to commit to a £20+ car can’t be on the ball, polite and efficient, it doesn’t say much for what the dealership or company would be like if something goes wrong … assuming they can get the parts!

theyve got plenty of individual parts but just couldnt get the complete engines already built up.
i thought ford made these themselfs but it seems that they are made out on contract for them.
they should have asked the supplyer at the beginning if they could meet demand.
just out of interest, how long is the delivery of the grand scenic.

I had finally had enough so, earlier on today I cancelled the Ford. If I’d wanted a car with a Ferrari lead time, I’d have ordered a custom hand built car not a flippin’ Ford.

My logic to this is simple … if they can’t get enough parts to build it, what are my chances of a swift repair if it goes wrong with such sparse parts supply? I figured it wasn’t worth the hassle, 6 months is too long to wait.

I am going, instead, for a Renault and they apologised to be today that it may actually be as late as December for delivery. It is a much better spec car for far less month than the Ford.

Maybe more people need to vote with their feet to let Ford know that the British find this sort of thing unacceptable!

140 TDCi Titanium powershift is what I ordered too.

I ordered this the day the prices were released, indeed, so keen was I that Ford emailed me the prices and I had them before the dealer I ordered the car from … that was back in May.

The latest I have is a build some time in October but, they are not very confident about that at the dealership.

I too am changing cars mid contract. One of my considerations was, how long I had left on my current car and how much refund I was going to get on the advance. With that in mind and the dealer telling me I’d have the Galaxy by early August at the latest, I calculated how much I’d have left to spend on the advance. With each passing month my refund is eroding and the amount I have to pay out is consequently increasing!

Like most, Ford too my £500 and have been earning interest on it.

It’s all about the ‘Vista’ system, if they can’t see something on there they know nothing! No one can contact Belgium and find out what is really going on, Ford UK are useless and don’t know anything about even what country the car is made in! They just keep referring me back to the dealer who only knows what Vista tells him which is changing daily!

We are left driving about in an unsuitable car (better than nothing) and the prospect of a much larger bill than expected and Ford UK or the dealership don’t care.

Motability eventually agreed to log it as a complaint after ages on the phone, they are getting a lot of calls on the subject apparently

my car was orderd on the day that the prices came out, i had to give my dealer the prices and codes to order the car.
how come your getting some of your advance payment back on your previous car, as that is just a deposit like you would put on a normal car. depending on the car depends on the amount of advance payment you give , that just keeps the payments in the price band for motability it isnt refundable if your car goes back early, and the advance payment for the new galaxy will be set at the time of ordering.
i would get your dealer to recheck as its the galaxy titaniums that are being built at the moment.

No, that is not the case. The advance payment is spread pro rata over the entire duration of the lease. So, a £3,000 advance payment, for example, if the contract was cancelled after exactly 12 months, would entitle the customer to a £2,000 refund being the balance of their £3,000 after 1/3 has been deducted.

This is different to the deposit, that is merely an amount which holds the vehicle, cements the deal. Most customers get zero advance payment cars so none of this applies. For those who go for more specialised cars, the sky is the limit on the cost of an advance payment!

So, if one works on the example above, I had a £2,500 advance on my current car which I received in July 2009. If we divide that by 36 months (3 years) then, each month costs me £69.44. Or, in other words, from the opposite end. Each month that passes means I receive £69.44 less refund on my advance. As I took this refund into account when calculating the cost of the Galaxy, each month I have to find an additional £69.44 toward that as I am no longer getting the refund … make sense now? If I get the car in November (unlikely) I shall be £277.76 worse off than I would have expected to be in July when they first said I would get it, one month more, by Dec 9 and I will be £347.20 worse off.

When last I checked, which was just a few days ago, they assured me they had no clue for sure when it would be built, the Vista system says Mid October. With a 4-5 week gap between build and delivery, that means late November at the earliest. But, I have been told one month extra every month since July so, I am not optimistic of the October build either.

If they can’t get the parts (as they tell me) to build the car, what if it goes wrong? How long would it be off the road for awaiting replacement parts?

All in all, I think I shall cancel my order, it simply is not worth taking the risk. There are not many alternatives but, there are some!

Ordered our new S max Titanium early August for us to collect on 10th November, on motobility, thought the car would be brand new, paid £250.00 extra for pearlesant white, it appears they didnt need to order the car they had one sitting in there compound at our deallers for a few months, its already regestered two months before we can collect it, the car will be five months old when we collect, our order states regestration date Nov 2010, dont seem right to me. the car is either ex demo or cancalled order should I kick up. the car they showed us when we enquired about S Max is the one we get.

My personal reasoning is, as mobility are paying for the car, they would be paying the dealer the price of a NEW one not a pre-registered one on a 10 plate. The dealer is getting the full price for a not so new car. However the wait as you can see is at least 12 weeks for a new one.
So if you can wait ask mobility what they think of supplying a pre-reg car, however if you can’t wait you could have that one now. Let us know how you get on.

the car they have wouldnt have the new engine or other upgrades so the price should be the old price not the one for the new models.
ive still not got anything, my build ate came and went now i havnt even got a new build date.

they are totaly out of order changing the colour without asking first. surley if the car isnt built yet then they can change it to any other colour that you want, its only a change of paint code and shouldnt be a problem if the car isnt built yet or is that to easy for them to do.
im meeting my dealer this week to se what is happening and when im getting my car.

in the end my dealer told me that if i didnt stop contacting ford or motability then they would just cancel my order and ban me from the dealership.
hows that for CUSTOMER CARE, all i wanted was to find out what was happening with my order.

not good news, did you order the 163 engine as that seems to be the holdup. Still with the warranty wars in progress maybe Ford will respond with a longer warranty and yours will be included. 🙂 Just changed my order as they now have Driver Assistance Pack 2
this means my ordered options are cheaper and I get Lane departure warning system free.

          Hi

My S-Max is now not due delivery until late October, put back from August. To make matters worse Ford have now deleted some colours and taken it on themselves to amend my order to a different colour as the one I order is one of those now not available. It can’t be correct that they can change your order without letting either the customer or dealer know. Appartenly my only option if I don’t want the new colour is to cancel and start again, with an expected delivery then in Jan/Feb 2011!!!

Do you think there is anything I can do, possibly seek some kind of compensation?

they arnt being very considerate at all for people with disabilitys, all they are seeing is another car sold and there profits going up, its not as if they lose money on the motability cars they just dont make as much as they would if selling to a normal customer.
i bet if we had orderd direct with them for our cars and where paing them direct we would get some compensation or an extra for the cars, but because were through motability they dont give a damn.

Grrrrrrrrrrr! Sorry, I know I’m replying to myself but have just checked my bank account and the DWP have started taking my mobility allowance for a car I haven’t got and am not likely to get for some months yet! The DWP need Motability to confirm that I haven’t got the car yet and Motability say they need to check with my dealer to see what the situation is – but nobody was answering the phone at the dealership, so that will have to wait until tomorrow. I may commit murder soon…..

that is a discrase, i nthought the system was better than that, when you collect the car you have to give an electronic pin number that gets sent to you by motability.
surley if this hasnt been done then motability can see on there records that you havnt had the car and stop them taking the payments out asap.
it goes to show that motability and ford dont give a shit once youve placed an order.
my galaxy was given a build date for this month which runs out next week, yet ive still not heard anything yet.

I got a phone call from the dealer yesterday. The S-Max Titanium I ordered now has a built date of 10th Sept and an expected delivery of 25th Sept.

I also filled in the Watchdog webpage and pointed them to this thread but also did not hear back from them.

i just cant belive that a large company like ford cant sort engines out for there cars, the engine is the same one used in there s max , galaxy and now mondeo.
there planing is crap, theyre quick enough advertising the cars on tv and every car mag out there yet cant produce the things.
but worst of all is the fact that there has been no apology at all and we just get fobed off with lame excuses.

I agree John. Also there has been no apologies or any offer to placate me as a customer. Maybe they are complacient at being the biggest supplier to Motability. Even so we are valid customers and should be treated accordingly. Ford’s (and hte dealers) handling of this seems to be devoid of any customer regard or consideration of how important the timings of orders for replacement cars.

Car built (was started 6th Sep), due for delivery to dealers on Monday (was due last week) but had to order space pack option as prices were wrong on order system (load cover was shown as £75 but paying £200 now).

Dealer not apologetic and no sign of Ford change of colour, delay in delivery and total cock-up of this from a customer experience perpsective.

Asked for Ford complaints number and going to call them and Motability as fed up with this treatment.

Has anybody had an update on when their car will be delivered?

I ordered a 140 TDCi Titanium powershift on 5th July and have been told the build has been pushed back from August until September so delivery will be October maybe even November.

Like many of you it was through the Motability scheme and I paid the dealer money up front (they wanted a £500 deposit so I gave them the amount which is left to pay after we trade in my wife’s 10 year old Toyota)

I’m thinking of cancelling and going elsewhere but there aren’t many other options to the S-Max (C4 Gr Picasso Exclusive has same lead time)

Well, finally managed to track down the dealer again yesterday (he’s usually “at lunch”) who has admitted that Ford have told him officially that they have “Engine Supply Problems” for the 2.0 TDCI (which they use in the Titanium S-Max, the Galaxy and the Mondeo, apparently). No idea when these problems will be resolved. I’m on the verge of cancelling my order. 🙁

I spoke to the dealer yesterday and pointed out that I had spoken to another dealership and the 2.0 Eco Powershift is available now. He is going to see if Ford and his management will cover the difference in advance payment. However I get the feeling he is keener to get a new model S-Max to show to other potential customers and he didn’t order an Eco one as he’d not sell it as everyone wants the diesels.

I filled in the form on BBC Watchdog yesterday and am so close to cancelling and either looking elsewhere or just buying a second-hand car and paying for the modifications myself.

Oh, how bizarre, because our dealer said that the only Eco Powershift available is an X-Sport with all the toys (satnav, Blind spot info etc.) and that we could order that but it would be a higher advanced payment plus Ford would want an extra £2k for all the toys. Was the available 2.0 Eco a Titanium, or an Titanium X, did he say? I just can’t believe how long this is taking. Let me know if you hear from Watchdog; they didn’t even get back to me. 🙁

its so annoying that a large company like ford cant sort out the problems like engine supply.
they must have plenty of right hand drive engines as its the same engine and gearbox that fits the s max and galaxy and as im aware its also going in the new mondeo.
why advertise cars for sale that they cant make.
i even asked my deler to contact ford and ask what compo they would give, just like an extra for the car or something like that. all i got was its not our fault.
i even asked about the date that they had put on my invoice and in the small print it said about cars being late and what you would get, my dealer just said weve spoken to motability and we are going to change the date on the invoice to indefinate.
just shows that invoices may as well be made of bog roll to wipe your arse with.
ive given up all hope of seing my galaxy this side of christmas and just think ford are useless sods.

Sorry to hear that your Galaxy is so delayed.

I agree it is terrible that the order is not binding in any way and that no effort to compensate is ever made. Whatever happened to the customer service we hear being promoted as being all important. Its annoying also being treated as if these are unique parts and not the commoditised stuff used for many other Fords and with multiple suppliers as there is no way a giant like Ford would put themselves at such risk (or you would have thought so)!

I’m sure if tables were turned the dealership would not be so tolerable if we caused delay in payment. Also there is no appreciation of how dependent you are if you need a modified vehicle and cannot hire an alternative or buy a run around to make do.

I’m tempted to cancel my Ford order and find an alternative that can deliver sooner. Or even to just buy something second hand and not Motability (this is my first experience of it).

It’s a shame as the scheme looked great plus the S-Max seemed best in terms of accessibility and even driver appeal.

Wished we could badger Ford PR into helping!

      All the best

the motability side is great, ive had a zafira with them and all is good. its only because i need an auto car with a good hight for getting in as i am having trouble at the moment. it was meant to be an early change ove to the galaxy but the way its going my zafira would run out before i get the ford.
the other pat that got to me was that they made the s-max zetec first in large numbers as it was what they thought would sell best and then made the galaxy zetecs.
now the people who have orderd the titaniums and x models have to wait as the havnt got right hand drive engines.
and the fact that they dont give a toss about what problems you have.
at present im having to get m wife to drive me everywhere until i get the galaxy, this makes me upset as i have to depend on her more and more and have lost my independance.
this will be the last ford im having.

I placed a Motability order for a S-Max Titanium Auto 2.0 TDCi on 5th July 2010 and the dealer told me build slot was in August so delivery would be early September (although he hoped that the order would move it “up the queue, as it was a priority 1 now sold car” ). Car seems ideal and up front cost not too bad at £1650 (plus £200 spaoe option)

Just received a call after trying to get a more definite date from the dealer (John Grose Woodbridge Suffolk) and they told me that the build was now delayed due to supply issues with the diesel engine or injectors.

Now this puts it back to October and may even be a Novemember delivery. I’m in a quandry as to what to do. I can only drive a modified car (left foot accelerator, auto etc) and will be stuffed without this am trading in manual car for it. I have asked dealer to escalate to Ford but not expecting any resolution.

Any suggestions? I’m really frustrated with all of this!

Oh God, now I’m really disheartened. My S-Max 2.0 TDCI Auto is still not showing a build date despite ordering the damn thing back in the middle of May. Ford say all they can do is ask the dealer to chase it up; the dealer says they can’t phone Ford but can only email them and Ford aren’t replying (CHASE IT UP THEN, FGS!), the delivery date is still showing 31st July and to cap it all, Motability have just told me that unless the dealer updates the delivery date, the DWP may start taking the mobility component of my DLA – for a car I haven’t got! I’m losing the will to live…..

We placede the order for our new galaxy on 1st July and arranged for all the adaptations to be fitted too, everything seemed to go quite well, estimated delivery date of mid september. all sounds good doesn’t it……. but no, it isnt.

We had a call from the dealership in friday saying there had been a problem with the adaptations and the order had been cancelled and re-arranged, i didnt think this would be too much of a problem, after all its onty a few weeks on top, until she then proceeded to tell me that my delivery date had been changed……to DECEMBER!!! at the earliest by all accounts too.

this is appalling, i am quite pissed off as i need a car i can drive as the one we’ve got has no wheelchair hoist or hand controls or anything, so i have to rely on my wife to take me everywhere, which means dragging the 2 kids everywhere too, i have no independance in my life and this was to be my biggest and best highlight, we even said when we ordered the car we were going to book our first holiday in 4 years for the beginning of November, which we did thinking it allowed plenty of time to get the car, the lady in the dealership could’nt of guarranteed it anymore if she’d sworn a blood oath or something to that extent.

Now we are nearly £900 out of pocket for a holiday we cant take as we cant transport me and my wheelchair to and from the destination, to which ford said…”oh sorry but theres nothing we can do about that its not our problem”, as if i dont know that already, its my bloody problem!!

Needless to say after this rant, i am complaining to motability as this is the only car that is suitable for us and to make us wait 6 months or so is just a joke, they gave no reason other than “it’s what the computers tell them”, cant even be bothered to make a phone call to find out whats going on, lazy gits!!!

No other choice but to wait though. COME ON FORD, PULL YOUR FINGERS OUT, YOU’RE MEANT TO BE A RESPECTABLE COMPANY WE CAN RELY ON. OBVIOUSLY NOT.

John – the dealer had mine for just over a week while he got the insurance sorted out but it shouldn’t be too much longer.

Only one thing wrong – Has anyone ordered the Space Pack? – the thing that Ford billed as a Load Protection Net turned out to be a small boot divider rather than something designed to stop the contents of the boot from flying into the cabin (as shown on the Ford website). My dealer said he’d look into it but I wonder if anyone else has had the same thing delivered?

if theyve given 21 june as delivery then it shouldnt be far off as the build date would have been done by now and your car is probably done already as it takes 4 weeks to get the cars over to the dealer.
my galaxy isnt being made tilllate july early august.
never mind as it will be the new number on the reg by then.
did you have any extras put on the car from the factory, ive had the electonic park brake and the load pack (load net in boot, sun blinds in rear windows and a touno cover in boot ).
i did price the load kit seperate to see if it was cheaper but at around £1000 i thought £200 for factory fit was the best bet.

We asked for Ford to factory fit the seat pack (so that I have electronic adjustment on the passenger’s seat, and also gives you the added bonus of tiltable seat base), and the panoramic roof. As I have to travel everywhere fully reclined I thought I’d rather look up at the sky than at the interior of the ceiling 🙂

my dealer didnt know what all the colours where on the cars and anything about them.
i looked behind him and saw the new galaxy brochure.
why dont they make the sales men resd the brochures before selling , then they would know what they are talking about.
i worked in sales of quad bikes for honda and we wernt aloud to sell unless you knew everything about them.
you would think the sales men would want to know whats what to make the sale easy’r.

That’s so annoying isn’t it John, when you’ve actually read the brochure and know something about the car you want to order, and the salesman doesn’t have a clue? We looked at a Lexus once upon a time and the salesman there was brilliant – helpful but not hovering, and knew all his info without having to go and look it up in a brochure.

Whether you pay upfront or not must depend on the dealer then, it would be better if Motability had a definite policy on whether or not you have to do that. Both the Volvo and Ford dealers we’ve dealt with were willing to order the car without any pre-payment so we must be lucky. John, I haven’t got a date yet but the dealer *said* he’d put a “priority 1” on the order to see if that makes Ford build it a bit quicker…we shall see. My dealer didn’t even know the new prices were out!

Anna your dealer can put whatever priority he likes on it… it wont get built any faster. The S-Max, Galaxy and Mondeo are all built at Fords ‘Ghenk’ plant in Belgium. The automated system fully controls itself and switches production numbers accordingly for each model dependent upon orders throughout the EU. Batches of vehicles are made. I.E if 500 S-Max Zetecs are required and 499 Galaxy Titaniums…. the lines will build the highest priority first, the S-Max.

Wasn’t it less complicated when it was lines of people building cars 🙂 I think what he meant was that vehicles that have actually been ordered by a customer requiring a factory-fit option are built before vehicles which are just going to be held in a holding centre on an airfield in the hope that someone might buy one. But I don’t know. Guess it’ll turn up when it turns up but sooner would be better than later!

i know that titanium galaxys arnt due to be built until july, theyve made mostly s-max zetec’s at the moment and are now moving onto the titaniums and titanium x sports, and then onto the galaxys.
thats why ive got to wait till august for delivery. it takes 4 weeks for the cars to come over after being built, to me that is along time.
if they give me a flight to belgium i will drive it back and have a holiday on the way back.
somehow i dont think that will happen, just have to wait.

Some dealers ask for the advance payment in full at the point of ordering, and all can ask for the cost of optional extras when ordering. My current car, a Volvo V70 was ordered from Volvo Cars West London last July and the advance payment was £1300 before any extras. I had to pay this and the cost of extras at the time or ordering.

Dan : We have had a bit of a rough year so far and felt we needed a treat! Probably a one off and not sure I would pay again, but it is still less than the advance payment we paid on our current S-Max.

I think I’m going to have to go ahead and order one without having test driven an auto, as apparently there are no auto demonstrators being made at the moment. By the time I get to test drive an auto it’ll probably be blinkin’ Christmas! I suppose it’s only a lease so if the 140bhp auto is underpowered I can chop it in after 3 years for the 163bhp.

my dealer has said that ive got to pay £500 because the extras come to near £1000, before the car is orderd.
i always thought that you paid when the car was picked up not before.

When we were going to be ordering the Volvo we’d ordered privacy glass which was an extra and that too was pay on collection, nothing to pay upfront at all – sounds like your dealer might be trying to have you over 🙁

some advice when you order, take the VTN number for the car you want, ive had to go and sort my dealer out who said he still didnt have the VTN number. i found it on the motability site and gave it him and now its orderd properly.
if you click on the galaxy you want it comes up with all the spec for that car, near the bottom of the page there is a VTN number that is the code for that car and is needed to order . some dealers are claiming they havnt had the numbers yet so cant order the new cars.
good luck and i will set up a facebook page and find you all.

welcome craig, anyone is welcome here as long as your willing to have a moan at ford and motabilitys way of thinking.
if so many of us are waiting for the prices , whats the betting that when we all go on friday ( maybe) we will crash the motability system with us all ordering fords ha ha.
now that would be a laugh.
we wait to see what friday brings.

John, I had a chat with Alistair several days ago for about the tenth time…. he knows nothing at all…. nobody at Ford Mobility know anything. They had freely admitted that they are just an information service, and that their information is the same as ours. This was why I asked the question ‘why do Ford pay for an internal Mobility Dept that knows no more and sometimes less than we do?’…. my suggestion…. close down the department and use the money saved to reduce the advance payments to the people that actually matter. ‘Us’ the motability customers.
Just had a chat with the Dealer principal at my dealership. He thinks that he should have prices for me on Friday 14 May!

*** He did not say this year though!!!! ***

Craig, sorry that your Dad is also having problems, but we here am sure will welcome you into our very own ‘FORD’A’BILITY owners club’

i have just had a very long chat with ALISTER at ford mobility and he has informed me that they still dont have a date for the price release. he said that and i quote ” as soon as ford let us know we will tell you”.
i thought that ford mobility was ford.
obviously ford mobility arent part of ford if they are waiting for ford to tell them.
so ford mobility know nothing as usual.

    Good luck,

The Citroen has not been available for a while now, the Nissan Qashqai has a 4-5 month delivery and the only thing really that is readily available is the Vauxhall Zafira, which is dated, uncomfortable and past its sell by date. The very reasons it is available to us! The Mazda 5 too is a possibility but maybe a touch too small.

I had a look at the Mazda 5 too but if I ever get to drive again I need an auto because I lose all the feeling in my left foot. They only do the auto in the mid-range one (Takara?), not in the Furano. Plus the seats aren’t half as adjustable as on the S-Max with seat pack. Humph. CX-7 is way too expensive on the advanced payment. It was only really XC70 or S-Max Titanium with seat pack for me….can’t get either!

Retail cost is of no real significance to a Motability user as eligible vehicles on the scheme have their costs calculated based on several factors; namely purchase price, running cost and projected resale value at three years of age. From this an advance payment is calculated. The advance payments on the Peugeot 5008 are fairly high as projected value is poor.

God, they’re pushing the boat out when it comes to Customer Service, aren’t they? What an absolute cheek! I bet that’s the same woman I got on the phone yesterday, she was a right grumpy wotsit. If they don’t take kindly to being reported to Watchdog, they shouldn’t mess around so much! I think we all need to start mentioning discrimination against disabled people, on the grounds that for a while now everyone else has been able to order the new S-Max, but us disabled people who have to get one via Motability aren’t able to, and are being messed around!

at the end of the day ford knew the new car was coming out april 2010 so why didnt they start sorting the motability out earlyer.
they had time to sort the cash prices out but not the motability out.
if one lot of customers can buy the cars then all customers should be able to buy the cars.

Just had a long telephone converstion with Motability. Orders for advertised S Max cars have a profile code of ’01JD’ this is for the 2009 model year cars (the ones still on the price guides). Ford have told Motability that prices will be announced for the new Phase 2 cars in May. Their last communication to Motability was on 4th May. Motability have been helpful in as far as they can be and are requesting information from ford as to the current state of play with cars still on their price guides, and if no stocks exist then these will be updated and removed from the guides. We already know that there are no stocks.
Ford use a computer system called Vista, I know this as I am ex motor trade…. Vista shows no availability.
Motability are aware of a number of customers who are complaining but at this stage cannot help further. Ford are themselves causing the delay. My opinion is that Ford are clearly able to sell the vehicles we want to fleet and retail customers without having to participate in the Motability schemes, but were happy to allow us to obtain the few run out models that they were unable to shift.
Not good really! nbot good at all!

They are useless and I’m sick of them. I complained to Volvo yesterday about my order for an XC70 being accepted and them later declined on the basis that they had “run out of cars” and then weren’t offering the XC70 any more. Volvo had the cheek to refer me to Motability who “run the scheme for Volvo”. I wrote back and said that it was Volvo’s decision which models were available to Motability, not Motability’s.

Has anyone actually spoken to Ford on the phone today? After that old bat was so rude to me yesterday, interrupting me in the middle of a sentence and then just saying “We don’t know” all the time, sounding so bored that it absolutely incensed me, I’m not sure I have the mental wherewithall to phone them again today!

Don’t know if this will work, but this is the link to the page I’m seeing this morning: http://www.motabilityonline.com/site/current_prices/priceList/priceListWPMSByVehicleDetails.jsp?formContextKey=&formSessionId=321ADC66D98C587C7C60DD05D3794419&searchAdvancePayment=&searchVehicleCategory=&searchBodyType=&searchBodyDoors=&searchNumberOfSeats=&searchManufacturer=Ford&searchModel=S-MAX&searchTrim=&searchTransmissionType=&searchFuelType=&searchEngineSize=&searchMpg=&searchCo2=Bands+A+-+G%2C+all+levels+of+emissions&userAction=Search&userAction=criteriaChange

it looks to me that you are seeing different prices because you are looking at the price range for higher rate mobility and then looking at the war pension price range. there is a difference in prices and the link you put on is for the war pension prices.

I have to say Anna, that my V70 has a good driving position and comfortable seats. I am 6′ 5′ tall so getting comfie in most cars is a problem, and having had a broken spine the Volvos seats are welcome, but its suspension and ride quality are awful, its too firm, jittery and rolls around. Not good for my delicate spine! Reliability has been dreadful!

Yes, the low profile wheels on the S60 make it feel like it’s got square wheels sometimes but suspension is pretty good. Build quality and reliability issues are such a shame because the Volvo seats are just SO comfortable on injured backs!

(no prices would be released until the 15th of may) one tells you one thing and another tells you another.i hope the advance payment is no more than £1000 as this is my max,but im thinking they will come up with something crazy like £2000+ ;-/

Negotiations have not been finanised between them both so its not really any companies fault. More that likely ford are asking for stupid high payments and motability are just saying no way. Motability are probably only just trying to get BEST VALUE for us (and them OF COURSE as they’re only a charity) very very FRUSTRATING the prices will probably come out next week (hopefully) then some will have to wait for 1st of julys payments for anouth 2 and half months!

Phoned Ford Mobility, was interrupted in the middle of a sentence (didn’t help my mood any) to be told “We don’t know, we were told end of April/beginning of May, we’re still waiting for the prices”. With so many angry people phoning, wouldn’t you have thought that somebody at Motability or Ford Mobility could get onto Head Office and say “FGS, we’ve got all these ranting customers, will you PLEASE get us the prices”. They don’t care.

I’ve been trying to order a new s-max for months now, after Volvo took an order for an XC-70 and then reneged on it because they reduced their range right down between 1Q and 2Q 2010. Can’t believe how difficult it is to order the motability car that you actually want. We too were told 1st May for new advance payment prices on the 2010 S-Max…..it’s appalling.

I have been trying to get an S Max for months and kept being told they were unavailable, but when the new price guide came out on 1st April, I went back to my dealer and my order was taken. I think that order should be honoured as nowhere on Notabilities website did it state that the cars had to 09 models. I have an order and it should be fulfilled! Limited availability was actually no cars at all…. this is illegal and Ford should be made to answer to this.

This is my arguement and the thing that grieves me the most. Advertising Standars Agencies monitor Retailers very closely. It is against the law to advertise items and offers that do not exist. Today Ford still have prices on Motabilities price guide for vehicles that they do not have. Even the 1.8TDCi’s, which ended production months ago and there have been no stcks of for considerable time. My dealer has reprimanded the salesman who took my order, he was partially at fault but somewhere communications between Motability, the manufacturer and its dealers has failed. Big time!

You can bet that the offers that were advertised, will not be repeated and the people who were disapointed by the complete lack of cars will be disapointed again!

I ordered a Ford S Max 2.0TDCi 140 Zetec on April 1st, the Motability advance payment being quoted at £495. My Motability specialist said that there would be no problem getting the car and that delivery would take place early May. A week later he gave me a delivery date of 22 May. I questioned this when he told me my car was a factory order. I know that Motability would only guarantee against a 2009 /4 model year vehicle and I was informed by my dealer that I would be getting a 2010/1 model year vehicle.
Since speaking to Motability and the dealer principal, I have been told that my order is invalid. I have to wait for the new model advance payments to be released.
Ford claim that the cars are subject to limited availability…. that means that there has to be some cars available. There are actually none. Surely even though this is through the Motability scheme, this kind of practice is illegal?
When will Ford announce prices?. Ford blaim Motability, Motability blame Ford. This is so annoying and very frustrating!

ford galaxys are a bit dear of a car depending on ford free road tax free everything with a 10 year garruntee but i tyhink mobillity should be in a galaxy because a galaxy is a big 7 seater car like because when u fold the back seats in the very back there is a lot of room for mobillity a galaxy is much bvigger than a doblo and a berlingo but the s max is a bit to sall for mobillity

I started this thread wanting to know when I could order a new Smax and it seems to have been taken over by the quest for information about mobility availability.

Just to update on my original post, you will all be surprised I’m sure to learn that I still can’t get a definative answer from Ford. I am now considering another manufacturer.

Andy: According to Ford, the S-Max was put on sale officially at the beginning of the month. You should be able to place an order now.

ive been told that we should hopefully see the new galaxy prices by the end of the month.
the only trouble is they didnt say what month ha ha.
the best bit is that ive been asking ford constantly when the new brochure for the galaxy will be out with no reply, today in the post came a bundle from ford, i was very excited thinking the new brochure was here. BUT NO they had only sent me the old galaxy and the old s max brochure.
why send a brochure for a car that isnt even available.
i think ford are loosing the plot slowly

i too have visited my ford dealer and ther is not a auto galaxy anywhere, until the new model is out, did ford and motabilty not ddiscuss the new model while sorting out april -june advance payments . in the motabilty price guide the 2.0 auot galaxy is fixed until end of june at £1500 advance payment . i can see no galaxys being available to order until the june -september list is out

it still dosnt tell us how much we have to pay to get one, we cant even order one until they sort the advance payments out.
all this should have been sort’d out at the same time as releasing the car prices on april 1st.
there are disabled people out there who need to order galaxys but cant do so because ford are dragging there heels.
all the galaxys shown on motability ar out of stock there isnt a single auto available so why put a new price out.
    ABSOLUTE MADNESS

The response we had from Ford was:

As the press release dated March 26 states “At the same time as reducing the recommended list price Ford will be reducing dealer discounts. This initiative is called “Blue Tag pricing”. As a result the price paid by the customer remains largely unchanged.

In terms of the Motability Scheme, the large car rates have significantly reduced in Q1, 2010 compared to Q4, 2009 and these competitive offers will continue.

I guess you can take that as things won’t change much.

ONLY TIME WILL TELL. but come on ford pull your fingers out.

ford have contacted me this afternoon and still nothing all i get is “your dealer will call you when the prices are out” some good that is my dealer cant even tell me what the colours are ye i can find them on the ford site.
all we want is the advance payment prices, they know how much the cars are so where is the hold up.
or maybe they dont want dissabled drivers to have them. NOW THERE IS A THOUGHT.

I FEEL THAT IF THE NEW GALAXY HITS THE SHOWROOMS BEFORE MOTABILITYS NEW PRICE LIST COMES IN FROM THE END OF JUNE 2010. THEN WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET THE NEW MODEL AT THE RATE THAT IS STATED IN APRIL -JUNE PRICE LIST £1500

IF NOT MAZDA 5 LOOKS GOOD AND THE INSIGNIA SE £1300

i have had many dealings with ford motability over this and seem to get nothing from them, they have now stopped replying to my emails.
my dealer told me that ford where having a meeting to sort out the prices last week, when i ask ford i got told that it would be the middle of april when the new prices are out, then 2 days later it was a month away.
what are they playing at, theyve got the prices for the cars already on the 1st april, how hard can it be to sorrt out the motability side.
the q2 motability prices show all galaxys auto and manuel yet there isnt a single auto available in any spec or cloour so why list them.
its a very poor show from such a large company.
COME ON FORD SORT THIS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have to order my new motabilty car in june for delivery sept 2010. As the current price list from motabilty April-June2010
states ford galaxy 2.0td zetec only £1,500 advance. then why have ford no vehicles, simple the new model galaxy will hit the show rooms end of april, begging of may and the price will go through the roof. i think this is very out of hand by Ford AS THEY HAVE SAT DOWN AND AGREED THE ADVANCE PAYMENT FOR THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS QUARTER

Probably, but the reply wasn’t definitive. Effectively what we think Ford are saying is that the new list prices really reflect the real world sale price of the Galaxy, S Max and Mondeo. So if your motability supplier has already negotiated a discount from the old list then you may not see any difference., But if your motability offer is based on the old list then you will. Not as clear cut as we’d like but the best we can do for you I’m afraid. You’ll have to speak to your motability supplier.

We asked Ford the position re Motability prices. The said “In terms of the Motability Scheme, the large car rates have significantly reduced in Q1, 2010 compared to Q4, 2009 and these competitive offers will continue.” Which is not crystal clear, but the best we’re likely to get.
