Hyundai Hexa Space HND-7 Concept Delhi debut

Hyundai Hexa Space HND-7 Concept. Oh, dear.

Hyundai has debuted the Hyundai Hexa Space HND-7 Concept at the Delhi Motor Show, an eight-seat compact MPV. But it’s not a looker.

Now the Delhi Motor Show is starting to take on the aura of a world stage Motor Show, it’s hard for a car maker like Hyundai – intent on world domination – to ignore. So, right on cue, Hyundai has rolled out a new concept at Delhi – the Hyundai Hexa Space HND-7 Concept.

The Hyundai Hexa Space (the HND-7 bit is the Concept code name) is an eight seat compact MPV, based on the underpinnings of the ix20 and, Hyundai says, aimed at young urban families in their 30s and 40s – a very sensible niche for Hyundai to try and fill. It has a decent looking – if very concept-y – interior, and its clever seating comes in three rows in a 3+3+2 configuration. So far, so good.

The Hexa Space, according to Hyundai, features Hyundai’s Fluidic Design Sculpture, but we think they forget to let it flow. It looks like Hyundai has taken a perfectly well-designed MPV and squeezed hard on the sides. The proportions just look odd – a bit like a high-riding 2CV with a new nose. Good looking it is not.

With all the good-looking Hyundai’s we now have – from the better than average ix35 to the almost perfect i40 Estate to the new i30 by way of the new Veloster – Hyundai have been on a roll in terms of design and product for a while. But this is, quite honestly, horrible.

Perhaps they can retail it through Halfords to save tainting their showrooms?
