Hyundai i30 N 150% above expectations in Europe
The Hyundai i30 N – Hyundai’s performance take on the regular i30 – is off to a flying start in Europe with sales running at 150 per cent above expectations.
The Hyundai i30 N arrived last year and defied sceptics with performance and appeal which made it a credible and appealing alternative to cars like the VW Golf GTI.With up to 271bhp from its 2.0 litre petrol turbo, the i30N starts at a very competitive £24,995 for the 247bhp version, with the i30 N with Performance Pack and 271bhp still coming in under the Golf GTI and Focus ST at £27,995.
But despite the very complete package from Hyundai, the hot hatch market is a tough nut to crack against the established might of VW and Ford in Europe, but an initial offering of 100 First Edition i30 Ns sold out in Germany in just 48 hours, suggesting Hyundai might do rather well with their first proper performance car.
Now it seems those initial sales in Germany have turned in to a proper result, with Hyundai revealing that they’ve sold 1,741 i30 Ns in Europe up until the end of February, and of those 981 have found a home in Germany – over 60 per cent of i30 N sales in Europe deep in the heartland of the Golf GTI.
But it’s not just Germany which is finding the i30 N appealing, as we Brits have snapped up 277 – despite the i30 N only being officially on sale in the UK since January – making the UK the second biggest market for the i30 N in Europe.
The sales figures in Europe are 150 per cent above Hyundai’s expectations, and augur well for the success of future N models in Europe – like the Tucson N.
