Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept previews new ELECTRIC saloon
The Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept has been previewed with a single image ahead of the electric Infiniti’s debut at the Detroit Motor Show this month.
Considering Nissan has been at the forefront of the electric car movement with its LEAF, it’s still something of a surprise that Infiniti – Nissan’s posh brand – hasn’t followed suit yet.But that looks set to change in the next year, and it looks like this – the Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept – is pointing at the first electric Infiniti.
Infiniti aren’t actually saying the Q Inspiration is an EV, but what little they do have to say points firmly in that direction.
Yes, they say the ‘Q’ previews a new design direction from Infiniti, but they also talk about ‘New Proportions’ and the ‘Next Stage of Evolution’.
Karim Habib, Infiniti Design Director, said:
We aim to take traditional saloon architecture to its next stage of evolution. Experimenting with new proportions in an established segment with the arrival of smarter, compact powertrains, the Q Inspiration features a shorter hood and elongated body, with all the benefits to interior wellbeing, comfort and space that this layout entails.
With a shorter bonnet and elongated body, Habib could equally be talking about cars like the electric Jaguar i-Drive, so it looks certain the Q Inspiration will be an EV when it arrives later this month, which would allow those ‘new’ proportions to work.
Whether that means an electric powertrain based on the new LEAF – or something more substantial – remains to be seen.
