The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 – Jaguar’s ‘Fastest Car in the World’ – gets a new toned-down Touring specification, with just 15 units being built.
The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 was never meant to be a volume model, but a car Jaguar developed to give the XE a proper halo model.
They had a bit of a mad time with it after revealing it in the summer of 2017, winning the Goodwood FoS Supercar Paddock Showstopper a month later, breaking the Nurburgring lap record three months later and the Laguna Seca production car lap record last September.
But despite all the showboating and a cabinet full of trophies, it doesn’t look like Jaguar have managed to flog the 300 units they planned, so now we get a ‘Touring’ specification of the XE SV Project 8, with toned-down looks to tempt a few buyers to grab a more subtle take on the bonkers XE.
Power for the new Touring specification comes from the same 592bhp V8 in the regular car, good for 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and limited to 186mph, and the same eight-speed auto ‘box sending power to all four wheels.
But the bonkers, in yer face, wing at the back has gone, to be replaced with a small boot spoiler, the adjustable splitter is replaced by a fixed unit, the ‘racing decals’ are gone and there’s a paint job choice of Valencia Orange, Velocity Blue, Corris Grey Satin and British Racing Green paint.
Jaguar call the XE SV Project 8 Touring the ultimate Q-Car. And if you don’t look too hard it could almost be a diesel XE rep-mobile.
Which is rather appealing.
