Jaguar’s Adrian Hallmark has revealed that Jaguar are planning a pillarless coupe version of the XJ after all – The Jaguar XJ Coupe.
For many of you – especially as it’s been heavily read today – our report this morning on the New Small Jaguar may be the first time you’ve come across Adrian Hallmark. Or you may have read his comments here about Jaguar making a Crossover a couple of months ago. But it seems Adrian is on a proper PR roll. Well, someone has to be.
Adrian has now had another pontificate, this time with Automobile Mag. And he, quite reasonably, reiterated what we’ve already heard from him recently and from Jaguar back in the Summer. But what he’s flagged up this time is the Jaguar XJ Coupe.
When Jaguar played tease with the new XJ they got very cosy with Sky. They spent a chunk of their launch budget with that well know hater of male chauvinism, seemingly to good effect. So when Jaguar where looking for a bit of post-launch coverage they let slip to Sky that they’d already penned an XJ Coupe. Cue a nice bit of coverage, complete with images hot from the virtual desk of Ian Callum
With fond memories of the original XJC – particularly the John Steed version – we thought it a cracking idea. Sadly, it seemed the XJC was nothing more than a PR plot to garner more coverage for the new XJ when the post-launch lull hit. Jaguar subsequently denied the XJC was planned.
But Adrian Hallmark has put it very much back in play. He describes the planned XJC as “…much more dynamic and emotional than a Mercedes CL.” Which is what we’d expect him to say. Sadly, there is no clue as to timescale for the XJC, but we’re digging.
We’ll say it again. We like the cut of Mr Hallmark’s jib.
