Jaguar has announced changes for the 2010 / 2011 Jaguar XKR including Speed Packs and XKR Black Pack

With the Geneva Motor Show just two weeks away, Jaguar has decided to roll out some upgrades to the Jaguar XK range and take the XKR further in to Supercar territory with the addition of two new options – the Speed Pack and the Black Pack.

The car Jaguar will be taking to Geneva has both the new option packs fitted and is being billed as the Ultimate Jaguar XKR Special Edition. The info from Jaguar is slightly confusing, as it looks as if US buyers can opt for the fully loaded ‘Jaguar XKR Special Edition’ but UK and European buyers will need to specify both the new Speed and Black packs on a standard XKR to achieve the same end. But we’ve asked Jaguar to clarify and will update here when they do – it’s a bit early in the day yet for a response. (UPDATE: It looks like this is the case – Jaguar XKR Special Edition in the US and add the Speed and Black packs in other markets to achieve the same end.)

The Speed Pack for the 2010 / 2011 XKR takes off the electro-nannies to remove the top speed limiter so the XKR can power on to 174mph instead of being limited to 155mph. To cope with the extra speed, the XKR gets a revised front splitter and bigger rear spoiler and the Active Differential Control reduces steering sensitivity at high speeds to give drivers a less ‘floaty’ experience.

Opting for the speed pack also gives you body-coloured sills and rear diffuser, chrome window surrounds, power vents, boot lid finisher, 20″ Kasuga alloys and red brake callipers. A new colour palette is also specified with a choice of Ultimate Black, Polaris White, Salsa Red, Liquid Silver, Lunar Grey, Kyanite Blue and Spectrum Blue.

The Black Pack – only available with the Speed Pack – aims to give the XKR a more dramatic look. The colour palette is limited to Ultimate Black, Polaris White or Salsa Red and gets 20-inch gloss black Kalimnos alloy wheels. Gloss black is also used on the window surrounds and front grilles. You can also have ‘XKR’ graphics down the side if you really want (a bit like the Jaguar XKR Goodwood Special we saw last year). Also in the mix is special interior trim for the Jaguar XKR with Black Pack where you can choose contrast stitching for the charcoal interior and grain. You also get to choose from Dark Oak, Dark Mesh Aluminium and Piano Black trims.

Other changes to the 2010 / 2011 XK range include red brake callipers on all XKRs and a tyre repair Instant Mobility System (IMS) which frees up boot space. The old wheel well gets carpeted and can take a custom Jaguar suitcase.

Decent tweaks to the range and the XKR option packs give the XKR a real edge. So all that playing at Goodwood last year has yielded dividends.
